I recently changed my phone over to comcast. My Main computer is online but I have an old laptop (Sony VIAO with Windows ME) that will no longer connect. I use is enough and would like to continue. They told me the IP number might need changed but I do not know how to apply that.
Easy fix for this one! In order to change your IP Address: These are the steps to follow:
Click on the START button
Find the CONTROL PANEL under settings
Click on Control Panel
Find Network connections
Click on Network connections
Find your Wireless Network Connection
Right Click on it
Click on Properties
Properties Box will Open
Scroll Down to find
INTERNET PROTOCOL TCP\IP
click on Properties
Once the properties window opens
Obtain an IP address automatically should be marked
Select Use the following IP address
You can use the following addresses or run another procedure to get an example of what your address for the laptop could be
Here is an example of what it may or could be:
IP 192.168.1.40
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
You can use your Main computer to determine these addresses:
Click on start at the bottom you should see a tab for RUN
Type in CMD hit enter
A DOS Prompt should pop up in a black screen
Type in IPCONFIG/ all
This will display your IP settings for you computer! Anymore questions please feel free to ask! This should get you there!

sorry, most of this doesn't seem to apply to the sony viao using Windows ME. Of course it just might be the dummy trying it also. lol
I tried to run the cmd on the computer and it wouldn't let me.
