Im trying to find out what gen ipod classic I have,here is the serial #: 8K4262M19ZS and it is 160 GB, THANK YOU!

Try forcing the iPod into disc mode to restore.
Putting ipod into disc mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363 Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Set it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect" If you are having difficulty putting the iPod model into disk mode, set it on a flat surface. Make sure that the finger pressing the Select button is not touching the Click Wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Play/Pause button toward the outside of the Click Wheel and not near the center.
If you are still unable to put your iPod with a Click Wheel into Disk Mode, use one finger from one hand to press the Select button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Play/Pause button.

The wall adapter logo means the ipod need connecting to an external power scource to complete the restart procedure. Once this is done it will reset to the facory settings.

Make sure you got the latest itunes version and latest ipod classic version.  Also you need to be on the original computer you used to sync with the ipod.  Open up itunes and connect the ipod.  Your ipod should show up on the computer.  Just click on the restore itunes back to factory default button and you should be g to g.

Slide the switch on the top of the ipod to where it shows white instead of orange. If it is already off hold, then you may have a broken hold switch.

google it. also another thing is to try is plug it in and hole menu and center button until an apple turns up or until yoour omputer reconizes it
