You may need a converter box. If this is an old television, it probably lacks a digital tuner. Make sure the antenna has a good connection to the tv. You can usually find converter boxes at Walmart, Best Buy, or Amazon.com.

If you are switching from cable, check into Netflix and Hulu. A Roku is a great device for cable cutters.

Do I need an hd convert box to get free channels

If you have a digital tv then no. Go to menu, click on input, click tuner or tv, click antenna, run auto scan for channels. Make sure antenna is hooked up. Digital antenna is preferred but not mandatory. If you're not getting channels move antenna re-scan for channels. Hope this helps!

Can't get local channels even though it is hooked up to an antenna

You may need to elevate the height of the antenna or verify the wire connections. If you have done that, try another convertor.

You likely need to add an antenna amplifier. The PS3 should have been hooked up to one of the other source inputs other than the antenna. If it was attached via the antenna, a solder connection may have come loose or the coax got kinked.

I am still trying to scan the air channels, I am hooked up to an antenna and can only get the Spanish channels. How do I get all the digital channels?

Hi Tat2,

First: If you do not have a cable hookup, if you are using an antennae, you should get a converter box.

It handles the scanning, the decoding of sub-channels (I have four OPB channels), signal strength filtering. It's remote, controls both the box and your TV.

It hooks up between your TV and antenna. Set your TV to channel 4, click the on button. The first time menu comes up, scans the channels and lets you know when its done. You'll find channels you never knew existed.

They're easy.

Best regards
Mike
