Where can I purchase a generator head 6250 5KW for my Coleman/Powermate generator. Is there a susbstitute I can use?

It may run for awhile in this condition, but eventually it will stop running and be completely ruined. I WOULD NOT RUN THIS WITH A BLOWN HEAD GASKET! My advice is to either find a replacement part, a manual and fix it, or find an authorized repair shop and have them fix it.

there is a rectangle shape cover on the rear of the generator head and strike a 9volt battery across the two terminals on the back and try it again

Sounds like you need to clean the carb ports, lines, jets, etc... purchase a carb spray cleaner with a tube to place on the spray head (Berryman's Chemtool B-12 is awesome). Take the carb loose from the generator, and remove the bowl, needle valve and spray carb cleaner thru all the holes, lines in the carb. Reinstall complete with air cleaner and retry... also if the gas is old, drain and replace with new...

I had a Colman that only surged when it had a large load on it. ConsumerReports.org says that some Coleman generators just can't hold a constant voltage. Hondas are expensive but very good,.

Flash it !
Start your generator, plug a single speed drill into the recepticle, while the generator is running make sure the drill is in the forward posistion then turn the drill chuck couterclockwise with your hand untill your generator power's up.
This simple fix " excites " the stator.
