The Honda lit says they are certified using mineral oil, but that any oil meeting or exceeding the specs is acceptable. In practice, some oils are too thin and make their way through the breather system, some too thick so lack the ability to get to the places where lub is needed quickly especially when cold. Cheap oil usually has fewer additives, such as anti foaming additives. Best advice? Use the best name brand quality oil you can get, and use the weight recommended in the manual for the temperature you will be encountering. Store brand oil may be made by a major manufacturer, but will lack the additives you need, pay more, get more, but the name brand! Remember this too, when in doubt, change the oil , it's been in there longer than you think!

It is not suggested to use synthetic oil in these as it clogs up the rings and valves. They were produced with the view of using Mineral Oil (without any synthetics.)

How many quarts of engine oil holds 06 honda shadow 1100

Use only a JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. Automotive oil uses different additives and will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. Shell Rotella T Synthetic (15w-40 about $22) and Shell Rotella standard oil ($12 a gallon) for diesel engines , both are JASO MA rated for motorcycles.10w-40 oil is good for cold climate. 20w-50 for hot climate/touring. Synthetic oil will make your cycle run cooler and shift easier. For the engine you will probably need four quarts of oil, a spin on filter, and a drain plug washer . Pour in three quarts and check the oil level by placing your motorcycle on the center standard looking at looking at the dip stick. Run the motor and top up as needed.
If changing the oil filter you will have to run the motor to get an accurate oil level reading.
Your final drive uses 80/90 hypoid gear oil. Synthetic hypoid oil will reduce friction and make your final drive run cooler.

What type of oil best for 1997 750 honda magna and how much

Your motorcycle comes from Honda usually with 10w-40 mineral base motorcycle oil. You can use any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate. 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Car oils use different additives and may cause scoring in certain types of cam bearings. Do not use any oil that says " Energy Conserving " on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you choose Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. Shell Rotella T and Rotella T Synthetic 15w-40 are inexpensive JASO MA oils. You will need 4 quarts of oil, an aluminum drain plug washer, and a filter. Pour in 3.4 quarts , run the motor, and check the oil level . Top up as needed.

What kind of oil should I use for my bike

Motorcycle oil with the JASO MA rating Honda recommends 10w-40 year round or 20w-50 in hot weather. Do not use oil that is Energy Conserving It will shorten wet clutch and gear life. I recommend synthetic Amsoil, Mobil 1 motorcycle, etc.. Also consider synthetic hypoid gear oil for the rear end it will have less friction and run cooler.

Can I put synthetic oil in a 1987 honda goldwing and what grade if so

Yes, Honda recommends 10w-40 year round. For hot weather or for long trips 20w-50 is good. Use only JASO MA certified motorcycle oil . DO NOT use any oil that says ENERGY CONSERVING on the label. It will shorten transmission gear and wet clutch life. Both Amsoil and Mobil One make excellent full synthetic motorcycle oils. Your engine will run cooler and shift smoother. You should also consider synthetic hypoid gear oil in your rear end, it will also benefit from less friction and will run cooler .

Repsol MOTO Gasoline Motor OIl,4T,Sintetico synthetic blend 10W40

Repsol Moto 4T Sintetico Synthetic Oil - 10W40

Synthetic blend lubricant with high thermal stability, designed to meet the needs of the most technologically advanced 4-stroke motorcycle engines.
  • Excellent starting and lubrication in cold conditions due to its low viscosity.
  • Meets JASO MA API SJ requirements.
Its fine to change your oil with synthetic, Just be sure that you use synthetic from now on... I don't think its advisable to switch back to regular oil after using synthetic.
