Depends on your machine, but remember if your machine has a 5mm needleplate opening, that limits the size of the lettering you will be able to produce. Unfortunately, to get larger output, you would need to upgrade to an embroidery machine or do the lettering manually with a satin stitch. You can, after practicing, do monogramming free hand with your machine and a satin stitch. However, remember, if the stitch width is limited, even satin stitch will still be limited by that stitch width.

How to Monogram with Basic Sewing Machine (be sure to use a stabilizer behind the fabric. Layer the fabric, then stabilizer, and put in an upside-down embroidery hoop--that way the fabric will be on the top and everything will be flat against the machine's sewing surface. )

(in this video, she puts the stabilizer on the top of the fabric, but it is wash-away stabilizer. If using a tear-away or permanent stabilizer, be sure to put it under the fabric.)

My Necchi sewing machine. I can’t seem to adjust the stitch length

Doing a google search for the brand plus model number for a user guide or YouTube videos might find what you are looking for. That it is a Necchi doesn't supply the model number and of course models differ. On a 537L model, the large knob on the right side about halfway between the top and bottom of the machine adjusts stitch length. The numbers may range from 0 to 5 with 0 meaning no length and 5 being the largest length. Tension, stitch length and stitch width are all controlled by small dials on the front of the Necchi machine. If your stitch length is set to 0, the sewing machine will not feed the fabric. Incorrect tension will cause poor stitch quality. You must consult you machine's user manual to know how to adjust the tension as the procedure differs among machines. Here is a general guide, however:

My Necchi Sofia 300. When winding bobbin the needle doesn't disengage and the matching makes a dreadful grinding noise as it winds the bobbin

Try putting a small drop of oil on the the metal shaft of the bobbin winder if it is not moving freely. The grinding noise implicates the winder tire may be ground from the locked winder shaft. The needle not disengaging requires oil in the shaft bushing. On this machine it appears you would have to remove the covers to access the appropriate areas.

I can't get the straight stitches to increase in size. They stay small no matter what I try. I have booklet, I got given the machine but I'm stuck. I am a sewer but never had a Janome before. Thanks

Make sure the feed dogs are in the raised position (not dropped for darning or free motion quilting). If they are in the up position, check that the stitch length is set to at least 12 stitches per inch. If the stitch length is set too low, the fabric will not move causing the needle to sew in place.

Tension problems

Hi, check that the thread tension knob makes only one rotation from 0 to 9 and stops at each ends, see that it moves in and out as you increase or decrease the tention, see that the small tension wire to the left of the knob is still in place, in any of these fail you need to replace/repair that assembly.
