Hello jdavi187 and LesB , This problem sounds like a hardware fault to me ,on the mobiles motherboard . The tiny surface mounted capacitors on the board that control the voltage and current from the battery get shorted out or simply stop working properly or if you drop the mobile it can create a dry solder joint on these components, sounds like you will have to take the mobile to a professional mobile technician,trying to replace tiny surface mount capacitors or resistors is nearly impossible without the correct tools and equipment.
If you can try another fully charged battery, in your phone and it works then it might be a dodgy battery problem. leave the phone off to charge the battery for 10 hours and see if its better.
