very concerned the screen does not come on at power up .how big is the fuse fitted

.try another fuse to the kenwood unit

i have read the whole user manual for it

on first power up the screen should default to set up menu

on that 470 is there few manual buttons on the unit ...look for a reset button on the front panel first button bottom left

near the end of the user manual has a few trouble shooting guides

    and wiring diagrams

if all the wires and earth are connected
    if still no power up
something happened at battery re connection and my thoughts and your bench test indicate the unit could be fried .

    extra info
the default menu should appear as it looks like a touch screen model .. as soon as power up is done .. the user manual also has instructions on how to enter the security number etc

Car battery keeps dying

Myguess is that you have an electrical short which is causing a drain on the battery. The way to check this is to get a 12 v test light. Unhook the negative side of the battery. Hook the test light up between the negative battery post and the battery cable. If the light comes on, You have a short/drain. To find where the short is, you leave the test light hooked up. Then you start pulling fuses until the light goes out. However, your car stereo needs to be completely unhooked before you do this test because most stereos have a constant electrical source so that the clock stays accurate and the memory stays active so your programed stations don't get lost. I need to know where the rcas go and what wires go

Red = To battery Black = Earth - Most people wire it to body of car Blue = REM Wire - Remote amp Wire goes to back of stereo so it can trigger amp to turn on
Then AUX L And R IN goes to The stereos AUX out.
After that its done
Unhook your battery before preforming any stereo modifications and remove fuse in the RED amp Wire it will be a big fuse you cant miss it, Case any wire accidentally touch when fitting they don't short .

not sure, maybe a wire in the harness is exposed causing an arc, maybe the stereo is faulty. I would check the wires first.

Stereo Wiring 1984 VW Rabbit

The red wire is power, brown is ground. There also may be a second power wire (possibly yellow) that is switched though the ignition (test this with a light), if you hook it up that way you won't drain your battery by accidentally leaving the stereo on!! The best way to determine what wires go to what speakers is to take each pair and brush the ends across the ends of a "D" cell battery! the corresponding speaker will produce a bit of static! The wires with the stripes are the negative side of each speaker circuit. Hope this helps...;-)

Wiring an alpine cdm9807 rb to a citreon berlingo van

The 'illumination' wire is to hook up to your headlight switch to back-light all buttons when headlights are on. The pink and black audio interrupt I believe is for hands free cellphone communications it will cut out audio when you have a call and have your hands free hooked up through your stereo. The remote turn on is for external amplifiers it provides a small amount of power to to turn on/off external amplifiers. As far as your unit not working I would make sure you have a sufficient ground using a voltmeter and make sure your battery lead is fused and fuse is not blown. You should have a memory lead(maybe yellow) that need constant 12v and a ACC power that needs switched power that is only on with key(usually red). Hope this helps! :)

Nothing from amp

The RCA "plugs" should be in an OUTPUT of the radio (sometimes they are INPUTS, like for an MP3 player..). Go to Sears or somewhere similar and buy an inexpensive Multimeter. Set it to DC volts and place the black lead on the GND termunal of the amp. With the red lead on the BAT terminal you should read roughly 12 volts always. With the car running and radio on, place the red on the REM terminal and again you should see 12 volts. If not it's the wiring. If the voltage is 12 on both then the amp is likely damaged.
