Pig tails are available thru Lowes in various wire gauges and lengths. Remove cover to pressure switch and notice wiring and replace with new cord (9 to 12 feet will work great). If your pressure switch is inside the cover and you do not want to bother with complicated procedure; just install a male plug on short remaining cord and just buy a 12 foot 14 guage cord. These units are disposable so if the motor is gone, it is garbage. I would try a power tool repair center to see if they have any used motors to repair your unit. Save the tank and use it as a slave unit for a new compressor. This way you will have more volume and the compressor will run less overall making the new unit last longer. If you burnt the motor out on this one, consider buying a larger unit the next time. Hope this helps.

My bostitch 6 gal compressor keeps running , and running , even goes into a higherpitch motor noise. can i check something ? or clean something to fix it ?

is it building up any pressure on the gauge
if the pressure recorded is around 40 psi or less , replace the failed poppet/reed valves in the compressor head
if it goes to 100 psi then replace the automatic controller for the motor

Tank holds air but will not shut off at desired pressure

There is a valve on the unit that is connected to the motor, this valve is adjustable. Look for the cover housing where the cord goes into a box that is mounted on the tank.. Some models have a lever that turns the unit on and off there. Take the cover off and see if any parts are loose. If not then there should be a screw that you can adjust.

How to test electric switch on porter cable air compressor

What you need is something called a volt-ohm meter.
Obtain one and use it to test your switch and wiring.

Where is the pressure controller for this compressor, and is it hard to change.

It is most likely right beside the pressure gage. It will have wires coming out of it and probably and ajustment dial on the outside. If the picture above is yours you will probably have to remove the plastic cover. Not sure how to do it but should be just a couple screws.

The regulator knob is broke. Where can I get a replacement? Replacement parts diagrams do not show the knob as replacement part.

You can't buy the regulator knob as a seperate part, you have to buy the entire manifold; Porter Cable part number N003001. Shop around on parts sites as these cost around $70 plus any shipping and handling. Depending on how often you have to change the regulated pressure output it may not be worth replacing.
