I had the same problem. Error code E04 with a full load of laundry and water in the washer. Unplug the power to the washer. Take off the round cover plate in the front right. Mine did not turn clockwise or counter-clockwise, it was completely stuck. Used two flat tip screwdrivers to carefully pry it away, without damaging anything. The plate is a hard plastic but just pliable enough.
Once removed, you will see the pump (img_0001). Unscrew the pump cover slowly. There will be water coming out, so be prepared. In my case we had a LOT of water, so I drained it gradually into a couple of large garbage bags. Wrap the bag opening tightly against the pump surround to minimize spills (img_0002).
Once all the water is gone, remove the pump cover and clean out any items trapped in the pump and in the drain from the drum (img_0003). In my case it was some loose change and a small ColorCatcher sheet. Reassemble the pump and you're done.

On the Bosch washer this indicates a problem at the pump. Probably some sort of obstruction. You may need a #15 Torx screwdriver. There should be a small round access door at the bottom front of the washer. If you turn it to the left you should be able to remove it to gain access to the pump cleanout port. Be ready with lots of towels when you remove the cap from the drain pump. There will most likely be a flood. LOL
Clean out anything that is clogging the pump. (like the occasional stray sock) Check the condition of the pump at the same time, but there is most likely something clogging the pump. Hope this helped and best wishes.

The error indicates that the machine has taken too long to drain the water. Do the following.
4. Proceed by checking the drain hose for proper connection and kinks and make sure that it is not blocked.
5. Also check that the main waste drain pipe, if you use one, is not blocked and clean if required.
6. Reconnect the power and switch the machine on.
If the problem persists then do the following.
7. Switch off the machine and disconnect the mains power.
8. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure it is operational.
9. Remove the connecting hoses, and expect water to drain out and make sure the pipes are not blocked with debris or any object blockage.
10. Makes sure the pump appears clear and that the impeller looks in good condition.
11. Reconnect the hoses and then reconnect power and switch the machine on.
12. If problem has not been corrected, then remove the pump and check that the drive coupling to the motor is OK and that the motor turns OK. If all is well then replace the pump.
