Your goal is to install this switch in the line that is providing power to light or will be. Most switches should have two screws, and should be installed in the line that is hot ( black wire or verify with meter)! With power removed to the line you would cut the line stripping back some insulation and now have two black wires that are stripped. One wire (copper ) installs on each screw. Remember to attach wires so when you make the screw tight you will wind wire clockwise.
The "On" should be up.
return power, turn on switch

How to wire light switch?

ok! only hook up the switch to the black wires and cap the 2 whites together. just run 12/2 wiring with ground to switch, hook the black to switch in and black to switch out to light.. cap the white wires to and from switch! you can either hook ground wire to switch or the steel switch box. hope this helps, im not very good with words.

Minka F719 Lavery Wired fan and fan works but light does not come

The light leg should be hooked to a power source. If you have a separate wire from a wall switch, that's where it should be hooked. Otherwise, you can hook it to the fan leg and operate the light from the switch on the fan.

Trying to hook up 2 lights to a light switch. Power is coming through one light then to wecond light and switch. How do I get the 1st light to work on the switch?

OK I asked for better info but, lets try this... If there is only one set of wires going to the switch, this is called a switch leg. Both wires,no matter what color they really are, are treated as black. so then in the first light box you connect one leg of the switch leg to the hot black incoming wire. the other leg connects to all other black wires in that box.Including the light. the white wires all hook together.( not the switch leg white, remember its really black)Including the light All Bare ground wires hook together. In the other box just match up colors and connect the wires together. Its as simple as that. Larry

Hooking up a combination switch with outlet and another switch

ok, i think what you mean is a 3-way switch- meaning two different switches that control one light and a single (pole) switch that only controls one light. you can't do that with the above switch. You need a combination 3-way and single pole switch.

WIRING DIAGRAM

The light box in your ceiling should have two or three wires. Black and White, or Red, Black and White.

If you have two wires (one switch to control everything):
Black is power - hook this to the fan's power wire (and the fan's light wire if applicable)
White is neutral - hook this to the fan's neutral wire.

If you have three wires (two separate switches):
Red is power for the light - hook this to the fan's light wire if applicable
Black is for the fan - hook this to the fan's motor
White is neutral - hook this to the fan's neutral wire.
