How to reset BIOS setup password?

Well, I haven't worked on a Compaq for a few years but they're one of the models that respond to having the CMOS battery removed.

Basically, remove battery, find location of CMOS battery (usually under memory cover or HDD cover) and disconnect or pull it out for 30 minutes and you should be back to factory defaults.

Which operating system ?
The Compaq Presario CMOS password is an administrative security measure built into the firmware of a Compaq computer.

This password is stored in the motherboard's BIOS (Basic Input Output System) and provides for hardware-level security.

This password may be accidentally set or forgotten over time and must be reset in order to boot the computing system.

Disconnect the Compaq computer from any electrical sources and remove the side access panel from its case.

This may require the removal of one or more thumbscrews on the rear of the computer case.

WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules

Locate the CMOS battery.

This battery is a round button-type battery located in the bottom-right corner of the Compaq Presario motherboard.

Grip the battery by its edges and pull it straight away from the motherboard to remove it.

Press and hold the power button on the case for ten seconds to remove any remaining electrical current from the computer.

This removes the CMOS settings and returns it to the default state of having no password set.

Replace the CMOS battery.

Replace the computer's side access panel and re-establish any previously severed electrical connections.

How to replace cmos battery compaq presario cq62-423nr

The CMOS cell is located on the motherboard; however the process of getting to the area is difficult. One small mistake and the entire computer is finished. Best a Professional who has the technical skills to open the case and get to the internal parts could save the day. If the computer is old, the cost is far too great to get professional assistance. If you still feel you are comfortable disassembling the computer, go to HP.Com and locate the computer, get the service manual and follow the directions from there.

If this is for the same question where you mention the Compaq CV735 Monitor then there are no CMOS batteries in monitors - these are only found in the main computer unit not peripheral devices.
