Intellifax 4100 wont copy or fax unless i put slight pressure with my finger on the lower part of the control panel to the left of the stop/exit button or under the 0 of the keypad

To turn off the confirmation use the following steps.
1. Press MENU. 2. Press the arrow key until SETUP REPORTS then press SET. 3. Press the arrow key until TRANSMISSION or XMIT then press SET. 4. Press the arrow key until OFF then press SET. 5. Press STOP/EXIT.

Your machine has the Easy Receive function. Although it's enabled, there's another setting the turns the feature ON, OFF, SEMI. To set the machine to automatically accept/print ALL faxes, do the following:

1. Press Menu, 2, 1, 3. you will see 3.Easy Receive in the window
2. Use the <--> keys to change from OFF to either ON or SEMI (in your case you want the feature fully enabled so change it to ON)
3. Press Stop/Exit.

Your machine should now accept and print faxes automatically.

Press Menu 1,8
then set minutes to 00
press Stop/Exit

Storing Speed Dial Numbers
1 Press Menu, 2, 3, 2.
2 Enter a three-digit (a two-digit for
FAX-4100) Speed Dial number, and
then press Set.
3 Enter a number (up to 20 digits), and
then press Set.
4 Enter a name (or leave it blank), and
then press Set.
5 Press Stop/Exit.

This might work: Press Menu, Mode, 0 to enter the Maintenance Mode. Then touch 91 to clear most of the machine's memory. (But not your phone numbers & stuff.)
More likely, that won't work, because your keyboard is messed up. These machines won't allow you to press a key when another is still down. Is one key sitting lower than the others? Or maybe water has been spilled in the keyboard? The keyboard itself might be bad. I've had to replace one only once, but it happens.

try unplugging machine. then press and hold "stop/exit" button while plugging in machine. continue holding button for 5 secs, then release. that is a procedure to clear any faxes stuck in memory.

THIS IS A HARD ONE, THE BEST THING THAT CAN TELL YOU IS TO LUBRICATE ALL THE GEARS IN THE MACHINE, THERE IS A SLIGHT POSIABLITY THAT IT IS COMING FROM THE FUSER MODULE

You need to find a service manual. Or have you tried brotherusa.com. The settings are made through the firmware switches.

We also had this problem. The solution that worked is to put the machine in maintenance and reset the scanner. Unplug the machine, put your finger on the menu key first and then re-plug the line while holding the menu key, in about 30 seconds all the lights will flash and the display will say maintenance. Release the menu Key and press 55 and this will reset the scanner; if scanner error comes up the machine will need to be serviced. Press stop and then 99 this will exit you out of maintenance. If the machine does not have an error try making a copy of blank sheet of paper and see if there is any improvement.
