How do i find out how old a freezer is?

Search online to find the manufacturer's website. Call or email them. Be sure to have the model number and serial number. They should be able to help you.

Remove lid, squeeze hinge back into shape and refit, adjusting screws in rear of hinge bracket as you do.

Yes, the freezer temperature means the lid gets very cold. Every time you open it some moisture condenses in the lid and the outside ambient also affects it. The insulation may be beginning to break down and the ice is forming inside. It is not a major problem however and many freezers go on for years with freezing lids!

Has power but does not freeze

About the only things that can be replaced on a chest style freezer are the thermostat, and the starting device for the compressor. if you know where the control is then thump it fairly hard to see if the unit comes on. If unit comes on then you need to replace the thermostat. (control and thermostat are same thing). now if it has the digital display on the door of the freezer do not thump it. Only the newer freezers have those though. Hope this helps

My chest style freezer makes a loud clunking noise every so often. What could it be?

If you hear this noise when the unit shuts off, you might even feel it vibrate the floors. This would be a compressor that is on its last leg, I would start shopping, but you are in no immediate rush, unless its happened for quite a while.

According to Lane, your cedar chest was made 8/25/14.

Usually Lane cedar chests have serial numbers that are stamped or applied to the bottom of the chests.

You can read the serial number BACKWARDS to determine the production date.

For example: serial number 753150 would have been produced on 05/13/57.

Some chests may also have an extra digit which denotes the plant location.

For example: serial number 2557121 would have been produced on 12/17/55 in plant #2.
