The bottom of the freezer ice's up, after approx. 2 weeks I have about 20mm of solid ice on the bottom. I have to gently break into smaller pieces and clear it out until the next fortnight! Any ideas?

Most freezers have a drain near the back and center, some have a plastic back cover you may need to remove to get to the drain hose area. Set the freezer to the warmest setting and use a hair dry to melt the ice away from the drain area. Continue to melt the ice away till you see the drain pan and drain hose. Sometimes the line can freeze below the bottom section of the freezer. This hose runs inside the back cover of the refrigerator to a pan under the condenser as the fan blows across the condenser the water in the pan will evaporate. If you melt the freezer drain get a funnel and put it in the drain hose and use hot water in the funnel and this will help melt the remaining ice. You should be able to see the water flow to the condenser pan. Drain is now open, donā€™t forget to set the freezer thermostat back to the correct temperature.

Ice buildup in bottom of freezer--puddle of water on floor

this sounds like your freezer is operating properly, except that the drainage of the water when going through the defrosting mode is not draining properly, pooling on the bottom of the freezer and then freezing. Check the drainage hose for the defrost in the lower pan. I would remove everything, place in ice chest, let the unit completely thaw out and then inspect. I hope this is beneficial.

My frigidaire ffhs2311pfba freezer is leaking water to the bottom of the freezer. Once frozen it will start to leak outside the freezer. I cleaned off the ice maker but not the post behind it as it is...

Sounds like the defrost drain at the bottom of the freezer section is frozen over and clogged.
shut the refrigerator off, remove the food in the freezer
remove the shelves
remove the lower panel on the rear wall
at the bottom is the drain pan with a hole
my guess that it is full of ice?
use hot sink water and remove the ice
then use a turkey baster to clear the hole and the hose.
If the water still won't drain your going to have to manually clean the hose.

Liebherr cs1611 collecting ice at bottom of freezer. Can see water stream from behind back panel. What to do?

Two Fixes needed here. Address the leak and get rid of the ice:

Things You Will Need
  • Screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Hose connector
  • Hose clamp
  • Bleach
  • Cup
  • Insulated cooler
  • Hand-held hair dryer
  • Baking soda
  • Turkey baster
    Things You Will Need
    • Screwdriver
    • Pliers
    • Hose connector
    • Hose clamp
    • Basting syringe
    • Bleach
    • Cup
1 FINDING & STOPPPIING THE LEAK: Unplug the freezer when doing a manual defrost or when removing the front panel to gain access to the drip pan or the drain hose.
2 Unscrew the front or rear panel on your freezer with a screwdriver to gain access to the freezer drain hose and the drip pan. The freezer will only drain during the defrost cycle, whether this is an automatic function or a manual function. If it drains at any other time, there is a problem with the unit that must be addressed by a trained professional.
3 Empty the drip pan. The freezer drain hose will drain the defrost water into a drip pan at the bottom of the freezer. When this pan becomes full, it will leak water onto the floor. This is a regular maintenance task whenever the freezer defrosts. Empty the drip pan during the defrost cycle.
4 Check the drain hose if there is leaking water and the drip pan is empty. The hose may have become separated from a hose coupler, or it may have been pinched or cut somehow. If the hose has separated from a hose coupler, it can be reconnected by squeezing the hose clamp and pushing the hose back onto the coupler. Make sure the clamp is positioned over the point where the hose meets the coupler.
If the hose has been cut or sliced open, insert a hose coupler into the hose and clamp it together on both sides. Small plastic couplers are available at hardware stores. Take one end of the hose with you so that you obtain the right size coupler and the correctly sized clamps.
5 Remove the drain plug and allow the freezer to drain if your freezer is so equipped. If the plug is not removed, the water will back up into the freezer and drain out of the bottom. Once the drain plug is removed, place a pan beneath it to catch the water, or if you are near a drain, position the freezer over it and let the water drain out. This is most often done on chest freezers that are manually defrosted, but older manually defrosted upright freezers may also have drain plugs.
6 Purge the drain line using a basting syringe. Mix up a 50/50 bleach and water solution into a cup. Suck the solution into a basting syringe and squirt it down the drain tube. If there is a dirt or grime plug, the solution will clean the tube and allow the drain water to run free. This method can only be done if the entrance to the drain tube is accessible. If you need to remove service panels to gain access, a professional service technician must be called.

GETTING RID OF THE ICE:

1

Disconnect your refrigerator from the electrical wall outlet.

2

Empty your freezer of all food items. Place them in an insulated cooler to keep them frozen. Pour the ice from your ice dispenser into the cooler, as the ice will melt in the bin and stick together. This will cause the ice dispenser to have difficulty dispensing ice after your repairs are completed.

3

Remove the freezer shelves and any bins or trays along the bottom. Squeeze the two sides of the light cover to unhook it from its clips and remove it. Remove the light bulb from its socket.

4

Disconnect any ground wire attached to the panel beneath the light bulb. This could attach with a small green ground screw or a clip.

5

Remove the screws holding the rear panel to the back wall of the freezer. Carefully lift the rear panel from the freezer, as the sides of the panel could be sharp. Removing the panel exposes the freezer coils.

6

Plug a hand-held hair dryer into a grounded wall outlet. Set the hair dryer on the lowest setting and turn on the power.

7

Wave the hair dryer back and forth across the freezer coils to thaw them. Trace the coils down to the drain hole in the bottom of the freezer. Aim the hair dryer at the drain to thaw it. Make sure you wave the dryer back and forth to avoid melting any plastic parts.

8

Listen for the water from the drain line to drip into the drain pan beneath the refrigerator. Once you successfully thaw the drain, mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 2 cups of hot water. Force the mixture through the drain line in the floor of the freezer with a turkey baster. This will clean the drain line and thaw any remaining ice.

9

Install the back wall panel in the freezer by reversing the steps you used to remove the panel. Replace any shelves and bins you removed and all frozen food items in the freezer. Reconnect your refrigerator to the electrical wall outlet.

Hope this helps!!!

Ice keeps building up in bottom of freezer and on vent inside fridge and now fridge won't stay cold.

Clean the coil inside the rear access panel behind the unit with a spray air duster and check for this problem.

I just opened up the back of my Frigidaire Side by Side counter depth to find the drain hose was bent and collapsed coming right out of the bottom of the freezer and the pan was dry as a bone. It doesn't look like my drain hose has ever drained a drop of water. The freezer bottom is full of ice And the rust and chipping paint under the bottom of the freezer door along with the mysterious puddles of water every morning means the drain system definetely never worked. Frigidaire should be responsible for this. This, along with the ice maker rebuild I had to do,... after ice was spilling all through the fridge. I actually had warrantty left on that one and called customer support in India to find out I could make the repair myself. Yep I had to do it. Frigidaire you failed.
