The noise is very likely from the power steering pump, that is the most common cause, it is either low on fluid or the pump is defective. See picture of pump below.

Itermittent whining noise in 2008 Ford Sport Trac

When in Park or Neutral does the noise change if you rev the engine? Whining noise generally come from a worn bearing so there will be a few things to check.
First check the serpentine belt. A loose or worn belt will cause noise. Carefully watch the belt with the engine at idle. Does it run smoothly or 'bounce' as it spins? Bouncing could suggest the spring in the belt tensioner is worn and has started to go slack.
Stand in front of the vehicle with the hood open and carefully listen to the engine. Sometimes you can hear if it is on one side of the engine or the other.
The most likely causes of the whine will be...
Power steering pump, A/C pump, Water pump, alternator pulley, belt tensioner and it's pulley or an idler pulley.
Parts like the alternator have more than one bearing in them so that could be another area to check. If the serpentine belt is off you can spin each pulley by hand. Listen and feel for a gritty growl as it spins. Bearings in good condition are usually smooth and quite.
Try this YouTube video. **NOTE** Be VERY CAREFUL if you try the tests in the video.

Is the 2002 hyaundai santefe a zero tolerance motor

The 2002 Santa Fe 4 cyl and 6 cyl engines are deemed "Interference" engines. If the timing belt should break or slip a few teeth, the pistons will strike the valves and most likely destroy the engine. Thus it is very important to change the timing belt every 80,000 - 100,000 miles (along with a replacement water pump). I recommend buying a belt/pump kit and having a local independent shop do the install (much cheaper than a dealer's $600 charge!).

Belt & pump kits are available via Amazon:

Starting in 207 Hyundai started shifting all of their engines to metal timing "chains"... more or less eliminating the possibility of such a problem. However, water pumps still go out... but not nearly as often or catastrophic a problem!

Saturn making a whining noise that gets louder when you press on the accelerator

Sounds like a bearing is on its way out in the drive belt system, could be the alternator, idlers, a/c if fitted, water pump.

Disconnect drive belt and spin all pulleys, and you will feel if one is loose, tight or making a noise it shouldn't.

2005 chrysler town & country compressor seized engine will not turn or start

Yes.
If you take the serpentine belt off, the engine may start.
But you may not have a working water pump without the belt.

2008 santa fe front noise

Is it a "wine" noise that gets louder when you rev it up? Sounds like an idler pulley. Is it a 3.3L motor?

There is a loud "whining"

Power steering pumps whine when they are low on fluid, or if they are goin bad. Serpentine belts also whine in cold weather or when they are goin bad. Tru spraying just a little WD40 on the belts when its running, if it goes away, you should be thinking about a new belt. If nothing changes, check the power steering fluid, if its full, take to a mechanic

Have loud noise from engine, gets louder w/more rpms.it is an automatic,60k miles.no exhaust or muffler problem.

Serpentine belt tightener pulley bearing was bad, made a loud noise. I replaced the pulley (jobber part) and the noise level was reduced enough to notice the waterpump was also making a noise ... more revs = louder noise. I am now replacing the water pump. (approx 60k Miles too).
