Back light dim screen no backlighting can't see screen exept in bright light

Could be either a main or power board issue

Set the brightness of the backlighting

1. In the device options, click Screen/Keyboard.

2. Set the Backlight Brightness field.

3. Press the Menu key.

4. Click Save.

Set how long backlighting remains on

1. In the device options, click Screen/Keyboard.

2. Set the Backlight Timeout field.

3. Press the Menu key.

4. Click Save.

Stop backlighting from dimming automatically

1. In the device options, click Screen/Keyboard.

2. Change the Automatically Dim Backlight field to Off.

3. Press the Menu key.
4. Click Save.

If the screen backlight is not on, first try adjusting the brightness.
Press TV/AV button on remote to select TV mode. Press the MENU button on the remote. Using the arrow keys (navigation buttons), choose picture mode and adjust the brightness and contrast.
If your TV screen is still not lighting up in a dim room, then the backlight is broken.
You have 90 days labor and 1 year parts from date of purchase.

Couple of possibilities here...

Hardware may be set for low brightness, look at keyboard for icon of a sun. Press the function key and this button to increase the brightness.

Driver may be needed - get from manufacturer website

Backlight / flourescent light is near end of life - may need to be replaced.

Inverter Board for back light is having issues - may need to be replaced.

You can replace the inverter board without replacing the backlight, but if changing the backlight itself, the inverter board needs to be replaced as well.

The part you need is called a CCFL Backlight. Basically, there are lights in the screen that back-light/illuminate the display. Over time it burns out and you are left with a dim and completely dull display. These are a pain to replace and expensive when bought from the manufacturer. But this site has a break down with dis-assembly instructions...if you want to try it.

When you say that your laptop "screen is dim", do you mean that there is no light coming from your screen, but you can see images on it? or do you mean that there is light coming from the screen, just a very little amount?

If you can images, but NO light is coming from the screen, then the LCD backlight is dead, and it needs to be replaced.

If there is light coming from the screen, but it's very dim, then you'll need to find the screen brightness adjustment keys on your laptop. This is usually two keys. The first one is normally in the lower left corner of your laptop and should be a different color - like blue or purple, and will be labeled something like "Fn". The second key is normally in the function key row (F1, F2, F3, etc...) and has a symbol on it that looks like a sun or burst of light with an arrow. There's usually one for "brightness UP" and one for "brightness DOWN". Hold down the Fn key, and then press the "Brightness UP" key a few times to see if the screen brightens up. Good luck.

the problem is not with the inverter.
the dim light is due to the LCD Back light

you can set the backlight by going into the options on your blackberry and then screen/keyboard.
scroll to backlight brightness and click on it and set higher.
then go to backlight timer and click and scroll to whatever time.
exit using back button and save settings.
