Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

If your roller brush is not moving there could be several problems

Firstly, the motor may be the problem. If you hear any noises while the machine is running, you should contact the original manufacturer for troubleshooting solutions.

Secondly, your vacuum may be in need of new parts. By changing either the brushroll or belts, you should be able to increase the quality of the suction.

SOURCE: Bissell Lift Off Broken Belt and Brush Roller

I had the same problem. I found that the brush actually melted to the end cap (the one with the square/ovalish end). I was able to pull it off with some force and applied some WD-40, but that only worked for one more use. The brush has again melted to the end cap and it is too deformed to try and fix. I suppose I will have to search for a new brush, but this model obviously has some innate flaws.

SOURCE: Bissell Momentum roller brush doesn't roll w/ pressure

This is going to sound funny, but check the wheels. Sounds like the pin or shaft that holds them is broke. Also check the tension on your belt. If the tension is to loose then the brush will have a hard time spinning.Good luck

SOURCE: roller brush won't spin (bissel 6390/3910 series)

I just fixed mine. It took me all of 10 minutes. Pull the brush out. Stand the brush on end on the edge of your study work bench/table top. while holding the brush vertical( on end) take a small phillips screwdriver and tap using a hammer on the metal pin you see in the middle of the brush. Keep tamping and the whole assembly will come apart. What you will have then is a long metal shaft, 2 bearings(they are acutally skateboard wheel bearings same number same make). Clean the gobbed up hair with a razor blade and then reassemble by tapping back together. The bearing wont be worn out because they are way too tough for a vaccum. We used ride down hills on them! a ten minute fix wow and you wont have to drive to vacuum shop and spend $$ and time

Bissell brushes spin, but not on the carprets

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has not work properly. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

The belt for the maain vaccume broke off and now with the new belt the roller will not work.

It sounds like your roller brush itself might be bad. Try holding the roller brush holding just the end caps with your finger tips, and spinning the roller. Does the roller spin freely? If no, this indicates that your roller brush's bearings have melted together. This is a common problem for Bissell vacuums, as they use cheaper plastic bearing caps. The roller brush is not covered under the warranty either.

When this part goes bad, this causes the belt to break almost immediately. If you tried replacing the belt, and it broke immediately, your roller brush has gone bad.

It makes a very loud noise and doesnt pick up much

When they make noise like that there is usually an issue with the drive system (the belt and roller brush). I would try cleaning off the roller brush and putting a new belt on. You can access the roller brush and belt by turning the vacuum over so the brush faces up. There is a cover plate over the roller brush which can be removed by removing the (4) phillips screws. with the cover plate off, you can remove the brush and old belt. clean the brush off really good and put it back with a new belt. This is normal maintenence for this model and should be done every 6 months.
You can get the replacement belt here:
