To Determine CD recording problem: Track1 records and plays back O.K. Upon completing track2, display window flashes continously "Now PMA" (Updating disc contents) NO playback or sound on track 2.

I have recorded 3 CDs,each with the same result! Both the CD and CD-R sides of the unit play back recorded CDs perfectly. The blank CD-Rs are"new" old stock.Could this be the problem, or is it the unit?? THANKS

It is possible that until you finalize the disc, the only track that will play is the first one. Unfortunately, once you finalize the disc, you cannot record additional tracks to it. You can verify this by finalizing after recording the second track and seeing if they then both play. If that works, you can safely burn additional discs with confidence that they are burning correctly even if you cannot play each back after burning and must wait until finalization to test full burn.

Pma writing on tha display

After you record the machine then writes to the blank CD. This is message is usually displayed while this is going on. In some machines you need to push another button as the recorder is holding asking for you to confirm the next step (my Pioneer CD Recorder does this yours may not follow the same protocol).

I have a problem to finalize cd after recording

On my CD recorder when it enters the finalize mode it first writes the PMA, after that mine gives a readout of the time it will take to finalize, after all that you need to hit the play button to write to the disk.

I don't have your exact unit but I supect you need to push an additional button to get it to start writing to the disc to complete the process.

After i have finish recording and i am finalizing the the cd code OPC appears on the screen, and being finalize the cannot play in other cd player why?

OPC means the unit had trouble Optical Processing Calibration, which means the disc surface may be damaged. Using brand name media and being careful to not touch the recording surface would help.

It's not completing the finalization so it won't play in a CD player yet.

It's mostly in the manual

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Harman-Kardon-CDR-20-CD-Players-manual/id/386dj191/t/2/

OPC: Stands for Optical Processing Calibration.

When you see this message in the Information

Display for the Record DeckK, it means

that the laser transport inside the unit is making

the calibrations and adjustments needed so that

the recording process is optimized for the specific
disc in use.

When an unfinalized CD-R or CD-RW disc is

placed in the Record Deck%, the letters

OPCwill flash once the Table of Contents has

been read. This indicates that the unit is optimizing

its circuits for maximum compatibility with

the specific recordable disc in use. the number

and total running time of any tracks that have

already been recorded will appear in the

Information DisplayK, and the appropriate

indicator SPwill light to tell you if a CD-R or
CD-RW disc is in use.

To Finalize a disc, place it in the Record

Drawer%. Once the disc's Table of Contents

information has been read and the OPC process

has been completed, press the Finalize button

E@and note that the Finalize Indicator

Uwill begin to flash. Within three seconds,

press the Select button9*and note that

the Finalize IndicatorUwill stop flashing.

The Finalization process will take up to two

minutes, depending on the length of material

recorded on the disc. During the Finalization

process the Record Deck will not accept any
operating commands.

We ejected the cd accidentaly without finalizing from the HHB CDR850. we REALLY need this audio. what can we do?

sounds interesting

did the power fail during recording?

have you tried putting the cd back in the machine?

you should be able to finalise it as long as the PMA completed

the disc wont come out normally untill the PMA rec message finishes.

i have this machine myself.

there is a mode that will scan a disc if the PMA is missing

if power was turned off during recording it usually enters a "REPAIR" mode when turned on again.

this takes 40 mins to complete but the audio can be finalised as normal after it completes.

try putting the disc back in and see if it can be repaired or finalised

What does pma rec mean on the hhb cbr 830 ? it just stops recording

The recorder is writing TOC data to the disc's PMA (Program Memory Area). Never turn off the power while this display is
showing.

Not Able to Record/Playback

can't record on the my Olympus VN-1000
+ I press rec button and it just shows rec in display (no recording time is shown ONLY rec)
+ there is no play back  or stop function

+ i can only stop  rec by removing batteries (stop or play will stop rec only ONCE - but there is no  useful function - such as play or stop or rec.)
+ I tried all trouble shooting tips in manual  with no effect
+  i cleaned the spring contacts inside battery compartment that interface with the  batteries
+ it was barely used - and has not been used for a 1 year ( no batteries were inside it )     it was inside a drawer
