SOURCE: dishwasher

if no water is coming into the machine at all it is a problem with the water valve, not your spray arms. as far as the spray arm goes I need the manufacture and model number to explain what to do.

SOURCE: Dishwasher spray arms don't spin & spray water

Could be a a couple different issues.. Not filling with enough water or food chopper broke or food chopper filter screen clogged.

Check water level:
Run the DW and wait for the main wash to start (water will fill. pause then complete fill) The water should be no more than 1/4 inch below the heating element. If not there..replace water inlet valve.

Inspect food chopper:
1. Remove lower spray arm and rear water supply tube to upper spray arm.
2. Remove torx screws that secure the sump cover.
3. Remove primary filter
4. Remove food chopper cover to expose the chopper assembly. Inspect for breakage or blockage.

I found on my first dishwasher the arm holes were plugged. I had to clean out each and every hole with a small wire. They would not even turn until I cleaned them God luck.

SOURCE: Frigidaire Dishwasher - Spray Arm Not Working

When a dishwasher has been checked for obstructions in the sump area and the spray arms can spin easily (by hand) plus the spray arm holes are not blocked, you end up with either a broken impeller or a failing wash pump motor.

If you would like more details of have more questions, please post comment back here, OK?

Why is the upper sray arm is not working in kitchenaid model KUDR01TJ

There are 2 spray arms for the top rack. A small one on the dishwasher top and a bigger one attached to the bottom of the upper rack. Both get water feed from a flat tube that runs up the back wall of the dishwasher. Not much to the very top little arm--just check the spray holes for any food blockage and try to clean with a brush or tooth pick. The bigger arm on the bottom of the top rack gets its water feed through a hole about half way up the flat tube on the back wall. When you push the rack all the way in, it has to plug itself into that hole in the back wall. Check that plug in area and make sure nothing broke off that would keep it from making a good seal with the rack all the way in. All check all the holes in the spray arm for food blockages. On the very end of all spray arms is a main hole that is the drive hole to spin the spray arm. The water shoots out that hole and acts like a jet engine to push the arm around. Make sure those holes are clear.

Dishwasher does not spray water just trickles out.

Ok this normally happens when there is a leak in the base
pull it out and remove both side panels
Do you see any water in the base
look on the left side there is a red bar which goes down to the botton lift this up and down you should hear the swich clicking make sure the rod is down then retry it

The micro screen maybe clogged but the main culprit may be the larger filter found inside the unit upon which the spray arm sits. It has sometimes significant calcium type deposits that I nearly completely cut off the water flow.

http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/dishwasher/check/sprayarm.php
Link above is how to check, your spray arms, to test.

Water comes into the dishwasher not through the spray arm.
It comes through the water inlet valve out of the hole on the left side of the tub.
The lack of the pressure could be if it is not enough water came into the dishwasher during the fill up time.
Add a 1/2 of gallon of water manually and see how the spray arm spins. If it spins better then the next step is to check the water shut off valve under the sink. Is it open all the way or not?
If it's fine then the problem is the water inlet valve. It could be blocked with hard water deposits or it's not opening all the way. In both cases it has to be replaced.

The cycle did not complete, the bottom spray arm (the tip) melted along with some plastic utensils (knife handles). Water come out of thee front door. When starting the washer again, the top and bottom spays...

The handles slipped down keeping the spray arm from rotating thus causing it to rest against the heating element. It won't wash because of the hole in the bottom spray arm. You have to replace the spray arm before nything else can be determined.

Top rack won't clean

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First of all please check the Water temperature by using a thermometer inside the dishwasher to measure the water temp. It should be as close to 125 degree F to 140 degree F as possible. Now try using the temperature boost feature if your dishwasher is equipped with this cycle feature and check if this will help your wash ability issues.

Now check the Powder soap by making sure that you store your soap in a dry environment and it is not stale and clumping together. Possibly try a different detergent like a liquid or gel. Also, make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded.

To check the proper filling dishwasher will fill with water up to and around the heating element. If water is more below the heating element, you may have low water pressure or a problem with the fill valve. Try & listen if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure.
For low water pressure, try to clean the screen at the entrance of the fill valve, sometimes the fill valve can fail and not allow the proper water into the dishwasher and may need to be replaced. And, check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks

Low water fills are a very common trouble maker with today's dishwasher.

Please do rate this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Dishwasher does not clean dishes, soap does not fully go away

Water Inlet Valve

A dishwasher's water inlet valve is its most common part to fail. When your dishes are not being fully cleaned, quite often a faulty water inlet valve is to blame. Test your dishwasher's water inlet valve, and if it is no longer functioning as it should, you will have to replace it.
Heating Element

Water temperature is a key element in achieving clean dishes. A dishwasher's heating element is not designed to heat the water that enters it. Rather, the heating element is designed to maintain the heat of the water that enters the dishwasher. Its a good idea to run the hot water in your sink for a couple of minutes before you run the dishwasher. Just to make sure the water is nice and hot before it enters the dishwasher. If the water is unable to stay hot, it can adversely affect your dishwasher's cleaning ability.
Filter/Drain Grate

There is a filter in your dishwasher. Its function is to keep large particles of food and foreign objects away from the pump. Many of the newly-manufactured dishwashers have self-cleaning filters, and routine cleaning isn't a concern. However, some other dishw ashers need to have the filter removed and cleaned regularly. If the filter or grate is clogged or blocked with debris, it may interfere with the normal functioning of your dishwasher. Consult your owner's manual for specific directions for removing your dishwasher's filter and cleaning it.

  • . Detergent or Detergent Cup

It could just be that you aren't using enough soap to completely wash your dishes. Your dishwasher may be designed to dispense soap at two different times during the wash cycle. If you don't fill all of the detergent cups, then the diswasher will lose a cleaning cycle. Also, if you use a gel-type detergent, try switching to a powered kind. Powders tend to dissolve better in hot water. And don't buy in bulk. Detergents are most effective in the first two weeks. After that, they decrease in potency.
Alternatively, your dishwasher's detergent cup could be defective in some way. It is possible that it is gunked up full of built up detergent, and a thorough cleaning may be enough to get it working again. If that doesn't do the trick, you probably need to replace the entire detergent cup assembly. If your cup isn't even opening, My dishwasher detergent cup won't open.

    Cycle Selector Switch
Sometimes a dishwasher's cycle selector switch is the reason why dishes are not coming completely clean. Test your selector switch to determine whether or not it has become defective. If it has, replace it.

Kenmore Elite Ultra Wash Dishwasher - top rack arm not spinning

Hi: I just posted a similar problem, but found a solution. After taking the arm, etc. apart (and verifying no blockages), I thought maybe the lack of water pressure was being caused by the fact that there are TWO holes for the top spray arm (higher and lower rack setting) on my model. ie. that water was being forced out of both holes, causing a drop in water pressure, which was causing the top spray arm to stop spinning. I plugged the unused hole with a wine bottle cork (to keep the water from spraying out the unused hole), and voila, it now works.

I wish all appliance fixes were this easy...!

    Top Rack not cleaning

If debris is blocking the holes in the spray arms where the water comes out, it could cause cleaning problems. Regularly inspect each of the spray arms and clean out the holes as necessary.

    Dishwasher

This dishwasher does not feed water to top and bottom arms at same time.  It starts with bottom and then after awhile it switches to top and then cycles.  If water comes out arms but arms won't turn,  check all holes in arms.  It's the water spraying out these that causes arms to turn.   If arms spin freely by hand,  it's a plugged arm or holes in arm or insufficient water in tank.
Being that it only sprays 4 inches suggests a water level problem or possible mineral build up restricting flow.
