Connect a wireless Xbox controller

1. Turn on your console.

On the Xbox 360 S console, each connected controller is assigned to one of four positions. Each position corresponds to a lighted section around the console power button and the controller Guide button. On the 360 E console, a solid green light on the front of the console indicates that the controller is connected. To determine the player position associated with your accessory, look at the ring of light that surrounds the Guide button on the controller.

If the controller does not turn on, check the batteries. Insert fresh AA batteries, making sure they are correctly positioned in the battery case.

To connect additional controllers, follow these same steps again. You can connect up to four controllers to the console. Each connected controller is assigned a position that corresponds with the lighted sections that appear around the console's power button and around the Guide button located in the middle of each controller.

• To disconnect a wireless controller, press and hold the Guide button for three seconds, and then choose to turn the controller off.
• When you turn off the console, the controller will reconnect the next time you turn on the console.
• The controller can be connected to only one console at a time. You can connect the controller to a different console, but the connection to the previously connected console will be lost.

Connect a wired Xbox controller
Plug the Xbox 360 Wired Controller into a USB port on the Xbox 360 console. There are two USB ports on the front of the console. To disconnect the controller, pull on the connector, not the cable.
The cable on the Xbox 360 Wired Controller has an inline release. The inline release on the controller cable is a safety feature designed to reduce the chance of the Xbox 360 console falling if the cable is pulled.
Wireless controller troubleshooting
If your wireless controller disconnects or cannot connect to your console, see Xbox 360 Wireless Controller disconnects or can't connect.
If your wireless controller does not turn on or loses power, try the following solutions:
Solution 1: Replace the batteries
Insert a new set of AA alkaline batteries into the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, and then try to turn it on.
Solution 2: Try a different battery pack
If you have another Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, take the battery pack off that controller and attach it to your controller. Then try to turn your controller on.
If your controller works with the different battery pack, your original battery pack might be defective. If your controller is under warranty, you can order a replacement battery pack from Xbox Support . See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.
If your controller is out of warranty, you can buy a new battery pack from a retail store.
Solution 3: Try a rechargeable battery packIf you or a friend has an Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack, attach that battery pack to your controller and try to use your controller. If your controller works with the rechargeable battery pack attached, you can buy a new battery pack from a retail store or order a replacement battery pack from Xbox Support. See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.

The problem seems to be a random disconnection from your home network. Try unplugging and replugging your wireless adapter or Ethernet cable. If the problem persists, try enabling and disabling these connections from your Console settings on the Xbox Live Dashboard.

If you replaced the batteries then you may need to re calibrate the controllers to the x box console.

Connection problems might be caused by one or more of the following factors:

• Weak batteries or a weak Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack
• Interference from another wireless device, such as a microwave oven, a cordless phone, or a wireless router
• Metallic objects positioned between the console and the wireless controller, such as a chrome faceplate or metal dividers, shelves, or doors on an entertainment center cabinet
  
  Note All licensed Xbox 360 console faceplates are tested for interference, and do not interfere with licensed wireless devices.
• There are already four controllers connected to the console.

• Remove the battery pack and reattach it to your controller, making sure that it is attached correctly.
• Press and hold the Xbox Guide button. In the upper-left area of the Xbox Guide button, the battery meter indicates your current level of battery strength. You might need to recharge the battery pack, if the level is low.

If you have an Xbox 360 Play & Charge kit

• Make sure that the Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack is correctly connected to your controller and plugged into one of your console's USB ports. If you check both of those things but are still having the problem, try the suggestion below.
• Plug the charge cable into each USB port on your console, one by one. There are two USB ports on the front of the console and one on the back. If the controller works in one USB port but not another, try another accessory in the USB port that did not work with the controller. If the USB port does not work with any accessory, your Xbox 360 console might need to be repaired.
• Turn off vibration feedback (rumbling) on the controller. If you play games with feedback while charging, it takes longer for the controller to charge and might drain the battery pack faster than it can recharge. Here's how to turn vibration off.
  1. Press the Xbox Guide button on the controller.
  2. Go to the Settings area, and then select Preferences.
  3. Select Vibration.
  4. Select Enable Vibration to clear the checkbox.

If your controller is still not working, try the next solution. Back to the top Solution 3: Remove objects between the controller and the consoleThe controller works within 33 feet (10 meters) of your console. However, objects placed between the controller and the console might reduce this range. In addition, objects that use wireless technology (for example, a cordless phone) can interfere with your wireless controller. Remove or relocate objects or wireless devices that might interfere with the wireless controller or console. Here are some things that can cause problems:

• Microwave ovens
• Cordless phones
• Wireless routers
• Chrome faceplates
• Metal dividers
• Shelves
• Doors on an entertainment center cabinet

Note All licensed Xbox 360 console faceplates are tested for interference, and do not interfere with licensed wireless devices.

If your controller is still not working, try the next solution. Back to the top Solution 4: Disconnect all controllers and headsetsIf all four rings surrounding the power button on the console are green but the controller has four flashing green lights, four controllers might already be connected to the console. Disconnect all of the controllers, and then try to connect the controller with the problem.

• To disconnect a wireless controller, press and hold the Xbox Guide button for three seconds, and then turn the controller off.
• To disconnect a wireless headset, turn the headset off.
• To disconnect a wired controller or headset, unplug its cable from the console.

It could be a bad RF Module that you'd have to replace. (Someone had suggested this to me as well.)

1. Press and hold the Xbox Guide button until the controller turns on. The Xbox Guide button is the round button with the green "X" near the center of the controller.
2. Make sure that your Xbox 360 console is turned on. If your Xbox 360 console is not turned on, press the power button. The power button is the large round button on your Xbox 360 console.
3. On the Xbox 360 console, press and release the Connect button. The Connect button is the small round button on the Xbox 360 console.
4. On the controller, press and release the Connect button. The Connect button is the small button on the front edge of the controller, between the left bumper button and the charging port.
5. After the Ring of Light spins and flashes one time on the controller and on the console, the controller is connected. The quadrant on the Ring of Light that remains lit indicates the position in which the controller is connected.

• The controller remains connected to the Xbox console even when you turn off the Xbox console.
• The controller is connected to only one Xbox console at a time. You can connect the controller to a different Xbox console at any time, but your connection to the previously connected console is lost. You must repeat these steps to reconnect the controller to the original console after your connection to the console is lost.
• The controller works within 33 feet (10 meters) of your Xbox 360 console. However, objects between the controller and the console may reduce this range.
• If the controller does not turn on, the batteries may have to be replaced.

If the controller is continually disconnecting from the xbox, the battery is probably dying. Have you tried installing fresh batteries into the controller ?

Then, disconnect the cable.

they should stay synchronized and worked fine after that.
