I am pretty certain you can do a re-set by pressing / holding the left corner of the touch screen with your thumb or index finger during powering the unit on. then follow the on screen instructions for your Nuvi MODEL to re-set the device to factory settings. not sure what the format is for the Nuvi 40 but they are similar on most models. GOOD LUCK. Please let me know how you get on.

sounds like the system is lost. My unit progresses to the map or where to screen without any interaction. you may need to do a factory reset. it will erase your stuff so you need to back it up first.

When your Garmin Nuvi 205 stops working or behaves strangely, there are two steps you can take yourself to try and get it going again:

1. Perform a Hard Reset,
2. Run WebUpdater to reinstall that firmware.

When your directions map comes up after you have entered your desination and selected GO, simply touch the green bar at the top of your screen. That will bring up turn-by-turn text directions.

I try to turn on the Garmin Nuvi and it will not go on. You can move the bottom to the on position but it just will not turn on. But when i charge it you can see the Garmin Nuvi on the screen and you can tell that it is charging. Please help. The model is Garmin Nuvi 750.
