How many ball bearings are there supposed to be on each side of the front axle of the Schwinn Point Beach model S4852WM bike?

Purchased a used Schwinn Point Beach model S4852WM bike and when repacking the front axle bearings, I only found nine bearings on each side. There appears to be room for one more. Does anyone know how many bearings there is supposed to be on each side of the front axle and what size ball bearings should be used?

There will always be a small gap in the bearing ring, and not all hubs take the same amount. However, if the balls are 3/16" there are almost always 10 on each side. If they are 1/4 inch (less common) then 9 is the correct amount. DO NOT replace only some of them - replace only in a full set of 20 or 18.

Thank you, Donald. They are 1/4" and all components appear to be in excellent shape. I will probably replace all the ball bearings, just to be on the safe side and the cost is low.

Schwinn mountain bike specs for bottom bracket replacement. SN: SNXDS16M34041

Serial number is of no help at all in determining replacement. The bottom bracket depends on the model of crank installed, which can vary even within the same model of bike. Take to a bike shop, post a picture of the crank and give the model name of the bike, or do some research at: Repair Help

I have a schwinn aluminum 26 inch mountain bike with a shimano 7 speed rear gear. Im trying to put new bearings in and I mistaking put the tape gear back on... But how do i go about this?

not sure what is meant by "tape gear"? also it is rare that the bearings ever need to be replaced. If they do, then that means there is a larger problem, like the bearing surfaces are pitted and marred from being too tight or the too loose and then the axel and races should probably be replaced at the same time. If you were just cleaning them and repacking with new grease, then typically on a hub there are nine loose balls on each side of the hub and a cone nut on the axle holds these in place against the hub race. There is a lock nut on the outside of the cone nut. The cone nut requires a spanner wrench (typically a 15mm or 17mm for a rear hub and 13mm for a front hub) to hold it in place while you use another wrench, like a open end adjustable wrench, to tighten the lock nut. Repeat adjust until the axle spins freely without binding or roughness and there is no side to side lateral play in it. Hope this helps.

Schwinn roadster trike rear wheel locking up

Problem with bearing or axle, no way to be more specific. Have someone comfortable with mechanical items or a bike shop look at it. If fairly new refer to place purchased.

I recently bought a Schwinn Meridan tricycle but it seems to be pulling to the right? what could the problem be? thank you! (looking forward to riding it on our trails here in FL)

Lots to check, rear wheel alignment would be first on my list.
measure from the center of the axle to the swing-arm pivot point on both sides of the bike, they should be the same, if not it will need to be adjusted. this is the most common problem along with under-inflated tires. If you do re-adjust the rear wheel, make sure that the belt tension is correct after.

Other things to check neck bearings, wheel bearings, brake drag, wheel balance, cable routing (make sure there is no pressure pulling on the cables with the bars centered)

Need to remove flat front tire on point beach bike what size is the bolt any hints?

Try an adjustable wrench. I think that the nut is 7/16th's or 1/2 (english units).

Use 2 adjustable wrenches to hold both sides.

I have this Meridian Trike (Walmart purchase). I need a FREE WHEEL 16T SPROCKET to fit the rear axle shaft. the shaft is larger than 15mm & 5/8in ?? My local Bike shop could not help me with this odd...

Why not call a Schwinn dealer and ask if they can order it for you? You do realize that you void any warranty by altering you bike, don't you? But, if you don't care, look on the www.schwinn.com website and find a Schwinn dealer near you.

How to disassemble crank bearing on Schwinn Mesa Mountain Bike

You wil need a couple of special tools, or be fairly creative with the tools you have.
  1. remove the dustcovers in the crank arms at the crank axle
  2. loosen the crank retaining nut/bolt.
  3. thread in a chank puller and pull the crank arms.
  4. remove the lock ring on the adjustable side of the crank axle (Requires lock ring wrench)
  5. remove adjustable bearing cup.
  6. remove axle and bearings
  7. replace or repair as needed.
Once you have it opened up ou can determine if you need new bearings or crank axle.
to assemble, reverse above procedure, insuring bearing play is minimalized.

Hope this helps.
