look under the bonnet and the heater control valve is electricaly operated and i think their may be a fault here for whatever reason

Could be the controller or a faulty blend door.
The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and evaporator along with the vents. The controller uses electric motors to change the direction of air flow.

Hello! it's my job to make things as easy for the customer as possible...Therefore I must ask why you want to replace the heater switch? Is it because you have lost one or two of the switch speeds? Your vehicle is noted for loss of the Blower Motor Resistor...
Changing the Heater switch means removal of the Climate Control Assembly which is not the easiest of jobs...I've included the process...But are you sure the blower resistor is OK? If you have lost 1,2, or all blower motor speeds it's more than likely the Resistor pack. And a lot easier to change...

1. Remove the instrument cluster finish panel...
   

1. Remove the 3 climate control assembly screws...

1. Disconnect the climate control assembly vacuum connector...

1. Disconnect the 5 climate control assembly electrical connectors...

1. Remove the climate control assembly..

Removal of blower motor Switch:

1. Remove the climate control assembly.
   

1. Remove the blower motor switch knob.

1. Remove the blower motor switch.
   1. Remove the screw.
   1. Remove the blower motor switch.

Removal of blower motor Resistor:



Blower Resistor is under the battery tray...

Sounds like it's the climate control center that is bad. The display shouldn't change by itself.

Climate control need to be reset, turn all functions off and set all switches to CCW position. Disconnect battery for about 10 minutes, reconnect battery and don't touch any controls for several minutes. You may hear the climate control cycling at this time.

YOU WILL NEED A HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL.IT WILL SHOW AND TELL YOU HOW TO REMOVE RADIATOR.I DONT KNOW YOUR CLIMATE.IF YOU LIVE IN VERY COLD CLIMATE.YOU NEED MORE ANTIFREEZE IN COOLANT SYSTEM THAN WATER.WATER WILL FREEZE CAUSE PROBLEMS.

this is caused most often by out of phase climate zone blend door actuators, it is a very hard problem to repair, some luck in fixing it comes from removing the negative battery cable for 5 minutes to try and re-phase/sync the door actuators,if the one door will not change temp then it is more than a door sync issue and can require replacement of the blend door actuator, are the outputs of the 2 sides just reversed? that is to say will they change from hot to ac even though one is hot and one cold and visa versa?
