Disappointing indeed. Did you buy it new or secondhand? If new, it is under manufacturers warranty. Husqvarna are reliable machines.
If it is used, undo the screws on the bottom of the foot pedal and you will see a wire track. Spray it with electrical switch cleaner. You can spray the button as well.
The Emerald 118 takes a bobbin that is very close in size to a Singer Class 15 bobbin, but it is slightly different. Don't buy green bobbins for a standard Husqvarna machine. They will not work. Any Husqvarna dealer can get the Emerald bobbins for you.
