Looking at the exploded parts diagram, the defrost timer appears to be located in the freezer compartment - behind the lighting assembly (on the "Controls Diagram" in the exploded parts view).

Here is the info I found that may help you or others out:

Upon review of the wiring diagram, it indicates the defrost timer is in the fresh food compartment - not the freezer as I originally thought.

The defrost timer for the unit is located under the fridge in front or back. Depends on model. A few put them inside the fridge. Russ

SOURCE: The freezer on my Amana ARB1917CB keeps frosting

Exploded parts diagram for your fridge:

I understand your frustration. Below are some diagrams and troublshooting aids. If you look at the exploded parts diagram link and select the Wiring Information page, you'll see the defrost timer is on the FF harness, which is the "Fresh Food" compartment.

Next, click in the "Controls" page. Item #12 is the defrost timer. It looks like it is in light assembly / cover in the fresh food compartment as it has 2 light bulbs shown - and the freezer has only 1.

Red dial On A Amana bx21

If the fans are not coming on that would tell me the defrost timer=> R0131577 Defrost Timer is worn out and or stuck in defrost. Turn that red dial clockwise slowly until you hear compressor and fan restart.. If this solves turning on the refrigerator then you will need to replace the timer with the red dial because the clock inside is stuck and will contine to cause problems until replaced. Let me know if you have questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

On several occasions, I've emptied, unplugged and defrosted the unit which solved the problem for several days. It seems to happen most often during humid weather. I'm sure it's a defrost...

Good Afternoon, My name is Houston and thank you for using FixYa! Your defrost system is made up of three components: defrost heater, defrost thermostat and defrost timer/control board. Since you have the ABB2223DES Amana the defrost timer is incorporated into the electronic control board (P/N: 12868513) which is located behind the control panel in the refregerator section. Unfortunately, it is in the $100 range, so let's hope that it is either the defrost heater (P/N: 67001794) - approximately $30 - and is located on the right side of the evaporator (the coils in your freezer section). If you have access to an ohm meter, you can test it by disconnecting and doing an ohm check - anything but an open or infinity reading usually means it is good. The last item is the defrost thermostat which is located near the evaporator (P/N: 12001937). It can also be checked with an ohm meter and the normal readings are 28-48 ohms. 10_4_2011_7_26_31_pm.jpg

I need to clear the drain line on my Amana ARB1917 bottom freezer refrigerator. I've accessed the short tube that is supposed to move the water from the fridge/freezer to the drain pan ... it's...

The way to check that everything is clear pour some water over the evaperator coil in the freezer and see that the water drains very quickly. Also you could use a can of compressed air that you would use to clean the keyboadr and what not on your computer and blow it in drain and clear anything remaining

My Amana refrigerator defrost timer is supposed to cycle every eight hours. Instead it takes about 14 hours to cycle around back to the defrost mode. The defrost mode does last for the proper 20 minutes....

Relax, some people exagerate was all I was saying.
Anyhow, go to a good parts store and ask for a Supco EDT (Electronic Defrost Timer) replacement as they are more reliable and not much difference in price.

Light is on, fan runs, compressor will not come on, compressor has never made a noise. Amana Distinctions model ARS2665A S/N 0010242568..side by side refrigerator freezer with ice maker.

Below bottom grate is a defrost timer. Turn slowly clockwise until you hear compressor start. If this works, replace defrost timer.
Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Have trouble with frost build up with Amana with bottom freezer.

could be thermostat or defrost heater or defrost timer.you can check the heater with meters that check continuity.the thermostatis located on top coil and sometimes they will seperate.so look for those 2 things.most likely it will be one of the 2.the defrost timer is most likely good,if you hear your machine turn off and back on then the timer is good.
