Kenmore series 700 washer, 3 years old-- gets to rinse/spin cycle and SD code comes up, which is the code for too many suds-- the washer itself pushes suds up from bottom. It spins and drains but now it also makes this loud humming sound. And the SD code will stay on display. I let it do it's thing, and I guess it corrects itself because the load does finish. Takes about 20 minutes longer though because it has to clear the suds it pushed up into the washer from the bottom drain holes. It's not clogged with the pipe outside, and like I said it DOES drain. Something is not right, what could it be?

Now it showed the LD code and just stopped altogether when the rinse cycle came.I had to restart the rinse cycle, we'll see how this goes. Could it be a clogged filter or something? Where would I find that?

I've been using the same detergent for 3 years. I used the recommended amount per load size. I do not use the wrong detergent the washer also makes a loud humming / buzzing sound too. The detergent has nothing to do with that. I think it's something to do with the motor, drain mechanism? Thanks for your input.

KENMORE WASHER HAS ERROR CODE 5D DURING RINSE CYCLE. PUT THROUGH CLEAN CYCLE AND STILL HAPPENING. CLOTHES COMING OUT TOO WET

That code is SD (suds). The code is the same for many washing machine manufacturers. This code usually means that too much detergent was used. It can also mean that a regular detergent was used in a HE machine. An extra rinse and spin cycle might help. One option is to do a wash cycle with no items in the washer or a cleaning cycle. This may remove excess detergent that has built-up over time. If the error persists when the washer is run when empty, the motor or the drain pump are working improperly. First check the drain pump filter and drain line for any foreign objects. If that area is clear, then you probably have a problem with drive hub for the washer (or another part of the wash basket spin hardware).

With a Kenmore machine, the machines were made by a variety of manufacturers. Thus the locations of the drain pump filter and the wash basket spin mechanism to check for issues will depend on the machine prefix. Please add a comment with the full model number including the 3 digit prefix, if you want a parts diagram and other information to help solve this problem.

I hope this gets you started.

I have showing 5d does not spin what does it mean

This code indicates that excessive detergent suds occurred during the cycle. The washer will not be able to spin out water with the excess suds. When "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the washer pauses the wash action and adds water for additional rinsing. This pause allows the bubbles in the suds to break. This process is necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds.
Concentrated detergents labeled 2x and higher will require a small amount of detergent based on load size. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

Sud error code

I found that mine was having a sud error. I removed the lower front panel and removed the filter. It was full of lint and loose change. I reinstalled the filter and haven't had a problem since. On a side note I found something interesting laying inside. A service tech guide wich stated to do exactly what I had done.

F-21 code several times. We clean the pump. Start again the rinse/drain and spin cicle, and now present sd code and later f-21 code. What we need to do.

I have the manual for this machine. Under "Code 21" it says the following:
"F21" (Drain Problem) Select STOP twice to cancel the cycle. Unplug washer or disconnect power. Check the following: Is the drain hose kinked? Is the drain hose frozen? Is the drain hose clogged? Is the drain hose more than 96" (2.4 m) above the floor? Plug in washer or reconnect power. Re-select cycle and press START. If the problem remains, call for service.
For "SUDS" code, the following:
"SUD" (Suds Routine) When excessive suds are detected, a suds routine automatically starts. This routine removes extra suds and assures proper rinsing of your garments. "SUD" is displayed during rinsing to inform you that Suds Routine was activated. Use only HE (High Efficiency) detergents.
Here is some more information that may help you as well:
"F" Codes other than F20, F21 and F22 Select STOP twice to cancel the cycle. Select DRAIN & SPIN if there is excessive water in the washer. Re-select cycle and press START. If the problem remains, call for service.
I hope this is of some help to you, Please rate and comment, Thank You

My maytag clothes washer Bravo quiet series 300, keeps flashing a Sd error code. Or it may be 5d

What does the Sd code mean?

This code indicates that excessive detergent suds occurred during the cycle. The washer will not be able to spin out water with the excess suds. When "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the washer pauses the wash action and adds water for additional rinsing. This pause allows the bubbles in the suds to break. This process is necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds.

Concentrated detergents labeled 2x and higher will require a small amount of detergent based on load size. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

Use only HE High Efficiency detergent for BravosTM washers.

Is "Sd" displayed and the wash cycle dial is flashing?

This indicates the washer was not able to clear all the excess suds from the washer. Re-select your desired cycle using cold water. Press Start/Pause. Do not add detergent.

Is "Sd" displayed and the wash cycle dial is not flashing?

If "Sd" is displayed and the wash cycle dial is not flashing, allow the machine to continue running, even if it appears that nothing is happening. When "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the wash action will pause to allow the bubbles in the suds to break, and the washer will add water for better rinsing. This rinsing process is necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds.

Is the drain hose kinked or clogged?

Make sure that the drain hose is not kinked or clogged. Straighten the hose for adequate water flow. Remove any blockage from the drain hose, drainpipe or utility sink. Use the U-shaped drain hose form on the drain hose, and secure the drain hose.

To remove the error display, press Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel once.

If Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel does not work:

  1. Unplug the washer or disconnect the power for one minute.
  2. Plug in the washer or reconnect the power.
  3. Re-select the cycle and press Start/Pause.

NOTE: If the error remains on the display, and all of the other questions above have been checked, call for service.

How do I fix my washer that only says 'sud' constantly and won't work at all? Whenever I try to start a cycle nothing happens. Whenever I push a button nothing happens. Please Help.

Hi please go to this above link, it is all explained at length what is going on and what to do.

This error code indicates that excessive detergent suds occurred during the cycle.
If a "Sud" or "Sd" error code is displayed, or if you can see excessive suds in the window:
There are too many suds in the washing machine. The washer will not be able to spin out water with the excess suds. When "Sud" or "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the washer pauses the tumbling and adds water for additional rinsing. This pause allows the bubbles in the suds to break. This pause and rinsing are necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds. See the animation below for more information.
  • If you see "Sud" or "Sd" with the Rinse status light on, the washer is in the process of removing suds. Let the cycle continue.
  • If you see "Sud" or "Sd" and the Cycle Complete light is on, the washer detected too many suds during the cycle and your load may not be fully rinsed or water may not be fully removed. You may want to select a Rinse/Spin cycle for further rinsing.

SD code and washer leaking

Sd excessive suds are detected by the washer during the drain or spin phases of the cycle.
The washer will stop and fill with water and then wait for 5 minutes to allow the suds eliminated so that the washer cycle can continue, After the suds dissipate, you can normally drain the washer and spin out the clothes using a RINSE/DRAIN & SPIN cycle. Make sure that you are using HE (High Efficiency) detergent in the appropriate amounts to prevent excessive suds in the washer. This should prevent the washer from going into this routine.
  1. Also check your drain hose for a kink or clog. Check the washer house drain for a clog or restriction. Test the washer to see if it will drain properly.
you can clean with affresh or vingar..let me know..
