Sounds like corrupted firmware. Contact the authorized service center for Sony. or, visit this site, sony e-support. This kind of fault/s are not easly repairable by a user.

Sony bluray player flashes in tv mode function button not working

The operating manual doesn't describe this particular error. I suggest resetting the TV. That might be by holding the power button down 15 seconds. This might return it to its default state. Other than that, I can only suggest disconnecting the device from power, waiting a bit, and trying it again. I tried the last link below to see if I could find the error mentioned on the Sony support site but turned up nothing.

If this is a hardware failure, accessing an authorized service center is advised, rather than DIY.

I think the following is a link to a service manual for the device: https://elektrotanya.com/sony_hbd-e380_hbd-e580_hbd-e880_hbd-t58_ver1.1.pdf/download.html

Works with most Sony Players

Step 1
Unplug the power cord of the Sony Blu-ray player. Plug the power cord back in. Turn on the Sony Blu-ray player. Turn on the TV to which the Sony Blu-ray player is attached. Wait for the "No Disc" text to appear on the front of the Sony's LCD display and on the TV's screen.

Step 2
Press the "Eject" button on the remote control. Wait for the disc tray to eject itself from the front of the Sony Blu-ray player.

Step 3
Press the "Disc Info" button on the remote control. Look for a number to appear on one of the upper corners of the screen of the TV.

Step 4
Press the "Disc Info" button repeatedly until the number "9" appears on the TV's screen. This number indicates that the Sony Blu-ray player is now set for "multi-region" and will play any Blu-ray disc that is commercially made.

Step 5
Turn the Sony Blu-ray player off using the remote control. Turn the Sony Blu-ray player back on using the remote control. Press the "Eject" button on the remote control to close the disc tray. Turn the Sony Blu-ray player off using the remote control.

My sony bdv-e300 started not being able to read discs.....after trying updates (from .007 to .009); resetting; unplugging from surge protector to wall outlet (all Sony's support ideas).....nothing...

Did you figure this out? I upgraded firmware from 009 to 011 and am now having the same problem. Have had the unit for 18 months. Called Sony and they want me to ship in for 147.00 dollar repair even though their firmware upgrade caused the problem. Cannot operate disk now when trying to load a Blu-ray disk. Plays standard DSD's without any trouble.....
