The console keeps freezing during the opening screen, and the time or two I was able to get past that screen, it freezes when the game is loading. Plus I have gotten the red ring a couple of times. What can I do?

Clearing your Xbox 360 Hard Drive cache
I've
had this problem myself whilst playing Oblivion, although it was not
only freezing in some places but also being very unresponsive and
really slowing down when trying to talk to NPCs. Anyway, clearing the
cache on your Xbox 360 is very safe and does not affect any of your
game saves, profiles, demos, videos, etc (although it does delete some
downloaded game auto-updates, which will be easy to download again
afterwards). It is mainly temporary data that is stored in order to
make certain areas of games load faster. These can sometimes corrupt,
making your Xbox struggle when trying to read them and eventually just
freezing up.
To clear your Xbox 360 cache you need to do the following:

Locate the System section of the Xbox 360 Dashboard. b. Select Memory,
select Hard Drive, and then press Y to view the device options
screen.c. On the Xbox 360 Controller, press the X button, press the X
button again, press the left bumper, press the right bumper, press the
X button, and then press the X button again.d. You will be prompted to

Get a PS3 people... I had same probs and still do! Another problem i had is the discs getting scored( scratched ) to the point they were unusable.
Hey gyz i have been fixing these errors for a little bit now and i recomend this:
first of you will need a t8 and t10 torx driver and some thermo paste i recomend using arctic 5 or whatever they call it
you can get instructions on youtube on how to open your console
1. open your console
2. unscrew *********** board from the alloy box and take out the dvd drive the fan and the small curcit board from the front.
unclip the xclamps from the board and take the heat sinks off and bend the x clamps back a LITTLE bit so they sit tighter
3 remove the old thermo paste and replace with the new stuff you wont need much
them put your heat sinks back on and replace the xclamps
put every thing back in the alloy box and plug in but dont plug in the fan
4 plug your xbox in and turn on you should see 3 red lights let it warm up should take bout 5-10 mins untill you see 2 red lights then UNPLUGthe console from the back
5 when it has cooled a bit plug your fan in and but it all back together and it should work

I have had this problem also. I fixed the x clamps, cleaned the laser, and I keep my xbox console open to keep it cool. Most of the time I will be in the middle of a game and it freezes. Other times when it is trying to load the game in the beginning. I tried downloading the game to my hard drive also. When playing from the hard drive it again says "unreadable disk". How is that possible when it's not even reading the disk and is playing from the hard drive???

Your system is experiencing a 'general hardware error' and is destined to die very soon.
You should try the X-Clamp replacement fix (tutorials available on x-box scene) or you could try my own fix...

Ok, basically my problem is the same thing. It keeps freezing up after about 10 minutes of playing even when i have a fan next to it. I havent gotten the red lights yet but im pretty sure theyre right around the corner. What the heck am i supposed to do...
A very common problem which is caused by overheating, well at least overheating is the trigger for it.
The real problem though is what damage the overheating has caused internally, i.e. it could be that the solder connecting the circuitary has melted causing a disconnection.

I'm getting the same exact problem, i tried unplugging everything and leaving the xbox in a cool spot for a couple of days, and came back and now it wont even load into the xbox360 system thing, it just gets stuck during the intro =(
Try keeping your power brick cool. I do that by placing it on the corner of my shoe box. I did that and I had no problems.
Try turning off the VSYNC in the graphic options.
Ive heard this alot about ROD my friend did this thing called "the towel treatment" you heat up the system with some towels and it goes away if its only one ring, might not work about 50% chance of it working the other 50% it dies or gets another ring

The ROD is a serious problem. When i had it i just sent the xbox back to microsoft, and they sent me back an Elite System, but with my old hard drive, so i could keep the memory. When i sent in my Premium console i got it back 8 days later and everything worked fine.
Then when i gave my premium console a try again, as i had not used it since before i sent it back in for the elite, the ROD was gone. I had assumed they had repaired it. Playing offline was fine, no problems, so i gave it to my step-brother and kept the elite, obviously he had to buy his own hard drive as it only came with a 512 MB memory card, and when he got xbox live the moment he attempted to connect to the internet the whole screen locked up. We tried shutting down the TV and unplugging and everything, but it just would not work. We shut off the xbox, playing offline was fine, but as soon as he connected to live, it would freeze.
The next day he signed on to live in the morning, and it worked. Then he came to mine and we used my xbox. When he went home, he started up his xbox again, and attempted to connect the internet, and it froze up. The next day he connected to the internet once, and the moment his xbox was shut down, whenever he tried until the next day, it would freeze up. He could only access live once per day, and he needs to get to the bottom of the problem!!!

BUT whenever you get the ROD just send it back to microsoft, i got my console back as it was, with a 512mb memory card, a new elite with my old hard drive, so i kept my memory!!!
My problems with the ROD were sorted but i think he would rather have had the ROD because now his console just freezes up!
I know this sounds pretty basic, but I unplugged everything out of my Xbox 360, put it on my windowsill and opened my window, in a few hours i was back to gaming!

well my xbox 360 the frist time you start it you might be able to get to about 5 minutes into the game but then it just freezes i turned it back on and off and it would freeze at the start up screen the ill turn off and on AGAIN and then three non blinking red lights come up

My xbox is just off the frits. Some times i freeze at the main menu and somethimes when i am in a regular match and sometimes when its loading. One time I go just one red light and i couldnt even start. So then i unplugged my hard drive and all of my power supplies from eachother. It got rid of the red light but it still freezes.
