The Motor or the motor controller is faulty. If you wish to get some details about treadmill repair then check the following link

The motor drive assembly is seperate from all the electronics that you program and the incline motor ,although it may not work if there is a "Saftey 'Clip that attaches to the machine and clips on yourself
it wont work without this "or if this Magnetic Clip is 'Faulty,
If you can lay Machine down on its side or look for a plastic cover at the front or underneith and see if you can Unscrew and access the
motor ..there may be a Overload Reset Button or Fuse just after where the Main Power Cord goes into the Tredmill.
tred mills also are common for getting pet fur and hair in the motor which can get caught up in the Brushes, (I Think it is Most likely a Fuse or overload switch that is inline with the main Drive Motor.(if you can post exact Model# of TREDMILL I can have a look at the Electrical Diagram and make a more accurate conclusion ,Cheers!
I believe the model number is NTL091080
I have issues with sometimes buttons not responding when pressed
the contacts get gunk, on the switches behind the main p.c Board. contact Cleaner may help. but you will hav to take the button section apart to clean.

SOURCE: Nordictrack motor will not run when start button is pushed.
Likely the cover of one of the motor brushes popped off. Unplug the machine before you pop it back in place, then try it again.
If that doesn't work, most likely it's the motor control board, or possibly the console, or finally just a loose connection behind the console.
But most likely, it's the motor brush cover. I've been seeing that alot with this model.

SOURCE: Treadmill Incline Works, belt does not move
Check the drive belt. It may be loose or broken. If the belt is loose, then to tighten the drive belt, start by removing the front cover. loosen the bolts around the motor then tighten the drive belt by tightening the motor adjuster bolt. Once the drive belt is tight, tighten the motor back down.

1. Inspect belt and deck. The deck should be smooth. The belt should have a consistent feel from side to side (a belt can be worn out without any sensory signs of a problem). If you feel deep grooves in the deck or uneven wear on the underside of the belt, part replacement is necessary. Continued use of your treadmill may damage expensive electrical components. 2. To inspect the belt and deck visually or to clean underneath the belt before applying lubricant, the belt must have the tension reduced. Loosen the tension roller by following the instructions in your owner’s manual. Do not loosen the bolts in the tension roller too far or the bolts will come out of the roller shaft. This step may not be necessary for your treadmill model or belt and deck condition. 3. Contaminants are the worst enemy of your belt and deck. Some treadmills may have an excessive accumulation of dirt and contaminants. If these are trapped during the belt lube process, significant damage will occur. If contaminant removal is necessary, loosen the belt by following step 2, lay the treadmill on its’ side, and use a nylon brush to loosen contaminants that have accumulated on the inside of the belt. Clean the deck with mineral spirits in a well-ventilated area. Allow the deck to dry before lubing or tightening the belt. 4. After completing the steps above go to your local hardware store and purchase a can of silicone spray ( Pyroil, Napa etc ) attach the nozzle and proceed to spray length wise starting at the motor shroud to 2/3 down the deck repeat the process on the other side then re-tension the belt according to you owner's manual. Start unit and proceed to walk on it if the unit shuts down again then belt and deck needs to be replaced or your in the market for a new treadmill.

Manuals can be downloaded at http://www.iconservice.com/CustomerService/manuals
First perform an incline calibration.
Insert the safety key/magnet. Press the incline up button. While the numbers are changing, remove the key. Release the incline up button and reinsert the key/magnet. The machine should go to the top and then back to the bottom.
If it only starts then stops, the incline sensor may be defective. Be sure all the plugs are secure on the controller board.
If the sensor is defective, you will need to order a new incline motor..
If the incline motor does not move at all, the controller may be defective..
