This scooter has only one motor. What is getting hot? Talked a couple min.ago to Shoprider they have no two motor Scooters out there unless it is decades old and that one had the motors in the back. Is this unit a Wrangler?

SOURCE: shoprider sprinter deluxe do I need to put grease in gearbox where surts are ? front motor runs slow and hot. back motor is good

Hi again I checked shoprider site on you're model and there is no mention of a front motor it only gives a listing on a 2 HP motor plus I checked monster scooter parts only one motor in there parts listing.,.???? Have u got the correct model. u don't have to put any oil in the transaxle unless u have dismantled it ...not sure what u mean by front motor .???? Cheers

Testimonial: "Thank you, The scooter has two motors, One in the front drives the steer tires and one in the back drives the rear tires. Sitting on the seat there is a motor in front of my feet and another behind my feet in the rear of the scooter. .When I took off the protector cap on the surt a puff of air came out.Not much ,but I heard it puff. The scooter ran like it was fixed for about 6 feet and then back to the slow mode. I unpluged the front motor and it runs fine off the rear.Plug in the front and it feels like 1/2 power..Had motor tested and it was fine..Thats when I seen the surt fitting and thought maybe it needed filled. Im going to check brushes next. Why would there be a puff of air when I removed the cap on surt ?"

SOURCE: my scooter

I don't know the answer but I will take a guess.

These mobility scooters use a lot of electronics. Switch mode power supplies are a way of controlling a dc motor more efficiently than with rheostats or the solid state equivalent, large power transistors. There are also electronics and relays to change the polarity for reversing and further electronics to prevent the scooter being able to reverse as fast as it goes forward.

When two motors are used they could share some of the same electronics or the electronics could be duplicated for each motor. While this would provide a fairly basic control there are some considerations, namely the front wheels travel further than the back when going around corners and during this the rear motor will be pushing the front motor and it will be acting as a generator.

The circuitry has a lot to do as apart from controlling each motor it must synchronise them so they consistently produce the same effort and at the same time allow the front motor to speed up slightly when cornering so the rear motor doesn't have to push it.

Clearly it is a requirement the two motors must talk to each other via the circuitry. While it would be better that each motor provides torque feedback, such a system would be complex and expensive and so it is more likely the current each motor consumes is monitored and synchronised via intelligent circuitry.

From your description I suspect the problem is a breakdown in communication between the two motors or the current monitoring or the synchronisation circuitry.
Usually scooter manufacturers assemble all the circuitry on a single board and seem reluctant to offer a checking and repair service, preferring instead to sell complete boards at inflated prices.

Double checking all the connections might produce results but the chances are you won't be able to go much further without a complete circuit diagram.

Motor stopped dead during slow turn on grass, neons light up,but it immediatly shuts down again lights ok motor stays dead.

Hi roybruce
Sounds exactly like a brake problem.
To check this run the scooter as far as it will go untill it shuts down or 10 minutes which ever occurs first.
Then being careful not to get burned touch very carefully with your finger the brake. Located at the end of your motor attached to the free wheel lever.
This could be very hot so be careful.
If the brake or motor is hot replace the brake. If the brake is cool to the touch you could have low voltage. Have your batteries load tested to make sure. Replace batteries if needed.

Good Luck

Chair is slowing down. Batteries are fully charged.

How old are the batteries? Even fully charged older batteries can be weaker and not give you as much power to keep the speed at what you are used to. Now a dragging bake can cause you to go slower and also drag the batteries down quicker. Try driving the chair and after awhile check each motor to see if they feel overly warm or hot If one or both feel very warm or hot then I would have the brake or brakes checked If they seen ok I would get the batteries replaced

I was driving down the high way after a bit going about 45 50 the car started to slow down and the brake light when on i pulled over and it felt like the brake was catching touched the front rotors...

I`ve had this problem on a different vehicle. Turns out the front brake caliper gets jammed up. After it cools off it will be ok for awhile. Be careful because when the brake fluid gets really hot from the friction and you hit the brakes, they won`t work so you need to check this as soon as possible.

Scooter appears to be charged and works, but doesn't travel more than 3mph. Has plenty of tork with NO LOad. bATteries were always hot when charging and surface of deck was too hot to touch. Scooter...

PCassels Check the brake located on the rear of the motor. If the brake is dragging on the motor housing it will cause heat and slow the scooter down. If you can, remove the brake from the motor but leave the wires connected. Tie the brake up so it won't fall and see if that makes a difference in speed and heat reduction. Don't overcharge the batteries Charge overnite or until the green light on the charger comes on indicating a full charge. Never charge more than 10 hours for this scooter. Now with the brake not on the motor the scooter will not have brakes so watch out on ramps and steep inclines. If it is only a few months old then it is still under warranty and you need to contact the provider that sold the scooter to get it repaired correctly Hope this helps

Fan motor runs for awhile and then runs hot and shuts off

Bearings in the motor may need oiling. look for a tiny funnel hole on a tube on the ends to oil it. Remove power first.
If none it could be permanently sealed and need to replace the motor.
Let it cool before touching anything. again remove power first.
