SOURCE: Motor will not start. Humming sound when turned

It is a generic item that you purchase based on its electrical ratings. Call a local electric motor repair shop. The part is between $5 and $10 in most cases. If the capacitor does not cure it, take the motor to the same shop for inspection. If it is only the starting switch it may be worth fixing...if the start winding is bad they will quote a new motor.

The starting switch that controls the capacitors is likely the problem. If the arms are bent you can bend them back to the point they work properly. If they are damaged beyond repair you can replace the stationary start switch. If you are not familiar with these repairs you can contact a local electric motor repair shop and they should be able to help you.
