SOURCE: Motor will not start. Humming sound when turned

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

It is a generic item that you purchase based on its electrical ratings. Call a local electric motor repair shop. The part is between $5 and $10 in most cases. If the capacitor does not cure it, take the motor to the same shop for inspection. If it is only the starting switch it may be worth fixing...if the start winding is bad they will quote a new motor.

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

SOURCE: My primary circulating motor hums

The starting switch that controls the capacitors is likely the problem. If the arms are bent you can bend them back to the point they work properly. If they are damaged beyond repair you can replace the stationary start switch. If you are not familiar with these repairs you can contact a local electric motor repair shop and they should be able to help you.

I have a waterway 115v, 2 hp 2 speed pump that starts in the low speed setting but hums in the high speed setting. replaced the starting capacitor, checked the starting switch and governor, both ok

perhaps you should take it to motor shop ( google motor rewind and repair in your area).. Electrical motors that run in water should be repaired by insured shop.

Replaced the clutch and motor coupler a month ago. Ran great. Washed tennis shoes. Came in to remove clothes, didn't spin. Wont agitate or spin, i could hear the motor running. Just replaced the motor...

Check for a failed capacitor under the control panel It is a start/run capacitor that the motor needs to start running. The motor will hum and if left will eventually burn out.

Fills with water and then stops makes a humming sound ,then stops all togther wont do aything spin or drain

sounds like an induction motor. start winding or start capacitor not starting to turn motor, This will make motor hum. Do not know m/c in qestion. Switch on and as soon as pos try to turn motor careful not to use hands or anything that can injure yourself with if it starts to spin.

Error code 6 on a Bosh washing machine. Motor just hums and wont start

Check the capacitor on the motor, use one of the same rating to be used in parallel to the one in use. If the motor picks up then the capacitor failure is confirmed.
If the motor is humming and heating then the winding is faulty. If not the agitator is jammed and needs to be freed. Use a WD 40 to spray and release.

Dryer hums and won't work

can you remove the belt and run it/..look at the motor if it is spinning. let me know. normally, if it hums, its the motor which is not starting, when you replaced the motor, im sure it has its own centrifugal switch and starting capacitor. did you replaced the starting capacitor?..it could be open.
