Microwave keeps blowing fuse

When I start the microwave, it starts to make a buzzing sound then blows internal 20 amp fuse within seconds. What could be the possible problem and is it worth repairing?

Thanks in advance

I have the same problem. I have found that it is arcing that is
happening with the small rectangular cover inside the microwave. If you turn out the lights you will probably see flashing inside but do not look at directly! Unit is out of warranty. If there is a cost effective solution other than trashing the unit. Please advise.

If it blows the fuse as soon as you hit the START button, it's almost certainly a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it blows a few seconds after you hit the START button, it's probably the high-voltage transformer. You'll possibly also smell a faint electrical burning smell from the rear vent after you shut if off.

If it blows the fuse as soon as it's plugged in, you probably have a shorted door switch, a shorted varistor, or an internally exposed wire shorting to the chassis, etc.

mine is a combi convenction oven, grill and microwave. if i dont use the microwave, it works fine, but as soon as i try to microwave it blows the internal fuse. so would that be the high-voltage capacitor or transformer? and how do I identify these in the unit?
    thanks

Wow, fridgetech, some of that wording sure looks familiar...

But to answer this, it's probably the high voltage transformer. It could be the magnetron, but probably the transformer.

SOURCE: Microwave keeps blowing fuse

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

Kitchen aid microwave blow 20 amp fuse on start.

Hello James
Having a 20 amps fuse is a bit high in todays standard as 15 amps fuses are recommended these days - they do not want too much current to go through the house wires.
Better to buy a new microwave as this microwave could burn down your house.

Kitchen aid microwave blow 20 amp internal fuse after 1 second only when starting runs 1 secod then blows fuse

Based on you information, if you disconnected magnatron and unit ran with no fuse problem, I would suspect magnatron. You should consider the age of unit it, may be be a better alternative to replace it.

I have a R-9H20 Convection oven works fine but blows fuse (10A) after few seconds when microwave selected

Sounds like MW has failed. given the age of unit repair is not economically feasible. I would buy a new unit and forget it.

Why does fuse keeps blowing within mircrowave

Hello friend, thanks for your post!

Based off the information you have provided I understand that your fuse blows every time your Electrolux microwave starts up. It sounds like it could be an issue within the control panel, capacitor, or circuit breaker. Because it could be a number of any one of several underlying causes, I would personally contact a professional to accurately diagnose your microwave to determine the root cause to reduce the risk of unnecessary parts-Matt

GE Spacemaker microwave makes groaning sound when start button is pressed for a second or two then blows the internal fuse. After replacing the fuse everything seemed to work, lights, exhaust fan, cl

Could be a lot of things but most probably a shorted high voltage diode assembly. If not that then the magaetron or capactors. Remember be careful there are high voltages even when the oven is unpluged. The capactors are usually charged and must be discharged. If you don't know what yor doing then time to get a qualfied tech.

Good luck

Fuses keep blowing out

In case it's still helpful, I'll inject a little sanity into the replies.

If the fuse blows as soon as you hit Start, it's probably a shorted high-voltage capacitor. That's usually economical to repair.

If the fuse blows a few seconds after you hit Start, it's probably a shorting high-voltage transformer. That's usually not economical to repair.

It's not radiation (non-ionizing RF by the way) that's the hazard, it's the voltages.
