Supply an image (and would be great if you could supply image from old broken one and new one)
I'm a bit confused though: if you have an internal working sdt-5000 that you want to put into an external broken sdt-5000, it should be as simple as getting the enclosure open, then swapping the internal drives; i.e. external enclosures usually still use the same spec internal drive so it would just be an ide or scsi connector cable.

What is the drive doing or not doing?
Do you have power?
Does it accept a tape?
If yes, does it rewind the tape?
Is this an internal or is it enclosed in a chassis?

Image of the jumpers attached.Drive appears to run fine, accepts a tape but is not recognised by my mac?
does the enclosure have a scsi cable connector (I want to assume that's connected when you are trying to see it, but best to be clear and sure)? jumpers won't provide the data transfer, just settings (see attached jumper setting pic)
note the jumper setting for a slightly different model, but you get the idea hopefully (one end is SCSI ID and maybe the other end has your cables attached; play around with combos; again, assuming the wide flat ribbon cable is attached, which I don't see in your pics)
