Most problems of this type on this model revolve around this part: WP8578335. If it doesn't sense the water as being the correct temp it can interfere- put the temp selector to COLD and see if it will fill all the way and begin washing...

Washer fills for seven seconds then stops.

This is most likely an issue with the inlet pump. You can check for a clog or blockage in the pump by opening up the washer and checking the hoses and connections. If everything looks clear, then you may need to replace the pump.

Maytag top loadind washer. Won't stop filling up.

Make sure your drain hose to the drain pipe is higher than the water in the tub if not it will keep running and going out the drain.
Also try taking the hose off the level switch and blow in it to be sure it's not stoped up. If is it won't let the level sw cut off. air should go through it. Good luck
When you unpluged the power and it ddn't keep runing the water valve should be ok.
