Why does the belt on a riccar vacuum keeps coming off?

The cause could be different depending on which model you have. Some models have stretch belts which should be replaced at least once per year because they lose elasticity. The most common problem I've found with Riccar vacuums is the belt coming off when a new belt is installed on an older model. Riccar vacuums are very well built and many owners use their vacuum for many years without having it serviced. I recently had a 17 year old Riccar Vibrance model brought in for service because the belt crumbled to pieces. The vacuum had the original belt and filters. Putting a tight new belt on the vacuum pulls on the motor because it must be stretched so much. After many hours and years of use screws may need tightened up and motor mounts and pivot points can become worn.
If your model is a few years old or is used heavily I suggest having it inspected by a qualified Riccar service center. A properly maintained Riccar vacuum can last 10 or even 20 years. A few dollars spent on maintaining it can add years to the usable life.

I have a days on dc28. It all of a sudden will not turn on. No blinking light, nothing. This happened a few years ago and we had to have it repaired. Can I fix myself?

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filter needs washing or your machine is blocked. If your machine turns off on its own, unplug it and leave it for at least an hour to cool down. Remember to check the filter and look for blockages before re-starting....

REPLACE HOSE ON HOOVER H3000 FLOORMATE

For our H3000, the "water channel hose" was torn (15+ years later, still worth it to keep the SpinScrub going... however it appears the exact part w/ end pieces is no longer available).

So, what's promising is that the old hose can be removed from the 2 end pieces -- found out that the "1.5 inch tubing" from Amazon is a bit too difficult to thread into. Looking for a more suitable size, perhaps 1.25 (OD - outer diameter) because of this.

Many thanks, responses above are great -- here's a WEBSITE with fantastic PHOTO DETAILS step-by-step I came across... thanks everyone!

How can i tell the year my kirby diamond ultimate g was built?

Look at the serial #. Disregard the first number. The next two represent the year, the next two the month, and the next two the day. The last three are the daily sequence.
Example: 5021203456, would be the 456th machine finished on Dec. 3, 2002.

I have a dyson DC18 slim all floors i have no suction from the accesory hose with hose off there is a white plastic thing blocking the hole

I realize this questioned was posted >1 year ago, but in the event you still have the poor suction/wheezing or if anyone else has this issue, here's what worked for us.
Use a plumbers sink snake to unclog the "pipe". I thought it was the pipe on the right hand side (when you're looking at it) which needed to be unplugged. There was a little in that size, however we retrieved the nastiest "hairball" out of the left hand side (when you're looking at it) and after removing that, and re-testing, the suction was incredible. In addition, the "wheezing" noise was no longer there.
Good luck

Vac will not come on?

If it's less than 30 days old take it back and go get a good vac from a vac store. If it's 9 months to a year old, it's probably got a bad motor. It was made in China, and built to fail in one year. Buy a Riccar. Made in America and built to last for 20 years

Polti Vaporetto 2400

The first problem you'll have is to unscrew the case. You will need a Torx security key -I bought a set from toolspot.co.uk Code PR7424 Toolzone 9pc Security Torx Keys. This unscrews the case. (I think I paid around £7 incl delivery) The problem is the T20 size, which is the one you need is a little too short to reach totally out of the casing, so you'll have to persevere and turn the keys a quarter turn a time until you uncrew all four. You'll also need to take unscrew two of the wheels to provide enough area for the key to turn. It took me ages!

Be careful here not to break the screw housings on the case.

Then you'll probably need to replace the switch - if you're lucky, you may just need to click the switch back into its housing, but most likely the switch retainers have broken. I have not yet found retailers who supply the exact switch. for the time being I have used a switch I had lying around and made a temporary repair. It works, and I think any switch of the correct size will do (but it needs to have an LED indicator built into it.

I havent yet started looking for the part but I should not think it will be difficult to locate (Maplins etc. would surely have an appropriate switch.

By the way the switch used by Polti is really not very good -its flimsy and breaks too easily imo.

Engine troubles

I haven't fixed it yet but I think I might have a solution for it. From the factory this thing had a 4 barrel carb and they put an equivalent size atomizer in it for the propane and over the years someone omitted the EGR system in it and propane is already a hot burning fuel so without that system in it it picks up idol speed when under normal operating conditions and when I put the system back in it should fix the problem...... I hope. thanks for quick response. Grant
