Yes. Some have water & some have sand in that ring. It is a balance ring to stop vibration when bowl spins. Do not empty it.

SOURCE: washing machine

What actually will happen over time is the stainless steel retianing hub and nut diseningrate and the tub becomes loose. Then the spin cycle will destroy the top balancing ring. When this happens - the washer is junk - not worth repairing.
Before that thou - other mechanical problems can happen, like u-joint breakage. These washers are absolute junk.

SOURCE: Kleenmaid top-load washing m/c leaks water and then smokes!

It sounds like you are leaking from the bottom of the unit. If you are leaking at the top then you need to check the water inlet valves, and also the drain pump and all water hoses. This doesnt sound like a seal issue.

SOURCE: We have a Miele W830

Although this answer is obviously not current any more I thought it may help others. We recently had the same problem with our machine. The clamp holding the hose to the detergent drawer became loose and the hose came off, allowing water to pour right down to the drain pump area. By undoing the 3 screws behind the detergent drawer + the 3 bolts around the door, I was able to open the front of the machine and tighten the hose clamp.

I've got a Simpson washing machine but when I filled it up with water there's water coming out from the bottom of the machine and the power just turn it self off

Check the water pump. If the pump shaft seals have worn out, it will leak water. I recently replaced a pump for a client with a similar problem but it wasn't shutting down from a short circuit caused by water. The pumps for Simpson machines are still in production and are quite easy to replace (find an appliance reconditioning shop and get a good used unit - it will save you some money). Also check the pump hoses for splits/leaks. Second place to look is the main agitator shaft seals for the wash bowl. This is a more involved repair and will require disassembly of the wash bowl/agitator to access it. There will also be a bearing on the shaft that should be replaced at the same time (washing powder is alkaline and will attack metal - once the seals protecting the bearings have failed, the bearing will rust out) Unfortunately the Simpson is a tough beast and isn't easy to tilt over to see where the water is coming from. You shouldn't need to turn the power on to find the leak. Just prop up one side of the machine with 2 blocks of wood etc and dump a few buckets of water into it and observe the underside with a torch (if it has been leaking substantially there should be tell-tale water stains in the vicinity of the leak)

My simpson aquapulse 513 5kg heavy duty machine, spins washing into balls and then stops, what must I do to repair this

You will probably find the agitator is spinning but steel bowl isn't. Either brake release is not working or clutch problem. Not an easy fix. Best to get someone out to repair it.

Hi, we have Simpson top loading washing machine model number Esprit 550, the drum is not rotating and the spinning plastic rod in the centre of the drum is not spinning/rotating either

that is a direct drive

is the agitator (plastic rod )loose or sloppy
if you look down the inside of the agitator
do you see a nut at the base holding the agitator tight

if the timer is working
and water can pump in and out
that is good

bad
if you cant hear the motor click in
it will need to have the inspection cover taken off
for service or part replacement

Oil on cloths after wash

Simpson washing machines are known for this, The seal in to top of the gearbox fails which allows water to enter the gearbox, this forces the grease out of the gearbox into the machine, The fix is an expensive gearbox swap.

WashMachine wont wash and wont stop filling

There is a rubber tube that goes from the outside of the outer plastic bowl up to the pressure switch in the top panel. It is on the left rear corner. It may have been pulled off the pressure switch. Look under on that corner and locate where it is attached to the plastic bowl. if that is OK then follow the tube up and check top connection.
Hope this will help you.

Split in plastic bowl

yes it is replaceable any good washing machine parts shop will have them cheaper to buy a second hand one though but you can buy straight from the manufacturers but that will more than likely come fully built with the inner drum in it which will make it easier for you to fit m8 if you dont have the phone number than you can find all manufacturers in the argos book
