Dewalt 51488. Air leaks around trigger and won't fire nail.

I have a Dewalt 51488. When i attach the air hose the gun does not leak... but when i depress the trigger air leaks out and does not fire a nail. How do I disassemble?

My 18 gauge Bostich brad nailer would not fire, and air came out around the trigger. Even though the gun is advertised as oil less - this is what remedied my problem - a drop of oil. I put one drop of oil in the slot where the brads come out [realizing that is where the driver is located] and left the gun upright for some time. The next time I used the gun it worked just fine. A drop of oil can also be added into the gun where the air hose is hooked up. Do not over-do the oil process, but don't ignore it.

Go to Dewaltservicenet.com and download a breakdown of the tool before starting. I would recoment changing all the O rings and make sure that you get a good grease to lube them first. Its not that hard.

Air comes out the nose of my dewalt framing nailer

Again sounds like blown O ring give it a squirt of 3in1 oil and fire it several times (if oil is compatible in your gun). Repair center if that doesn't work. Trash can also get in the air orifice and stop moving parts from moving.

Nail gun no longer fires. Leaks air around trigger when trigger depressed. It is in single fire mode.

You will have to take the gun apart and change the rubber o-ring gasket for the trigger mechanism..Go to a Home Depot or other contractor outlet to get parts or info...The gasket actually keeps the air from leaking so it will nail.

I have a Bostitch N80S stick framing nailer that leaks air from the trigger area. I replaced the entire trigger valve with a new single fire trigger to see if the old bump fire trigger was the problem

Remove the nails and take off the trigger to expose the trigger valve (usually part # tva6). Connect air and spray soapy water on the valve to determine if the air is leaking from the center of the valve or around the outer edge between the body and valve. If leaking from the center, could be defective valve or debris under oring. Pop out the valve and examine internal parts for cut oring or defect. If leaking from between body, you could have cut orings installing the valve. Make sure that there are no rough edges in the body of the gun. Bump fire or single fire happens with the trigger type not the valve. Bump fire trigger is usually black metal and single fire trigger is light color plastic. Good luck

It will not fire the nails. Unit is cleared with no obstructions. This has happened several times but now it will not work

If your gun is over a year old, you may have failing orings. Dewalt used vinyl orings (yellow to gold in color instead of black rubber) in the gun that fail. The vinyl orings are installed around the cylinder and inside the trigger valve. The gun may not leak air, however will not fire. The repair kit has all necessary orings, however may not include the trigger valve. Good luck

The gun constantly exhausts air when connected to air compressor. Won't build up the pressure when connected. Must disconnect between firing trigger

Easy fix if air is leaking out the top of gun. Remove the head and lube with white grease or silicone paste. If orings seem to be loose, order repair kit from dewalt (you can tighten orings by removing the oring and wind a bit of teflon tape in the oring groove). If air is leaking from the trigger, replace the valve. If air is leaking out the bottom where the nail ejects, pull out the cylinger and lube the orings that seal the cylinder to the body of the gun.

My framing nail gun won't fire when trigger is squeezed air leaks out but won't fire

Time for oring kit # d518005 available at Dewalt service center or at www.toolpartsdirect.com.
May as well order the replacement trigger valve while there. These two items will renew your gun. Good luck

My dewalt framing nail gun was hooked to the air compressor, but was not being used when it began leaking air which you could hear and got louder. It sounded like it was leaking around the trigger area....

There are O-ring seals around the trigger that are probably leaking. You can try to lubricate the gun by adding the pneumatic oil to the air supply. That may be enough to seal it back up. Otherwise the seals and/or the trigger assembly will need to be replaced.

Check whether the trigger is working properly, and whether the air valve is not leaking.

Air leaks arond trigger when depressed, but no nail fires.

Where does the air leak out from? If it leaks from the trigger DeWalt makes a trigger valve assembly part # 641006-00 list 8.89 BUT if it leaks from other areas we have to look into it deeper. If it is just the trigger valve let me know and I will give you instructions how to remove and install the new one.

Once trigger is depressed, air leaks and no nail is fired....

Sounds like the trigger o-ring is damaged, either because of not being oiled frequently, or the pneumatic tool has not been used for a while. O-rings will harden up if not used. Look for a place that sells fasteners, or nails and see if they can put a new o-ring in the trigger asm. for you. If you take the gun to a place where you purchase your nails, they should repair for little or no cost. it is an easy repair if you have the tools, parts, etc.
