For a desktop computer:
Depending on the motherboard of the computer in question you can:
- Locate and change the position of a jumper that will clear the BIOS settings.
- Unplug the machine and pull out the battery that maintains the BIOS settings in RAM.

2. Remove the battery pack. (See "1010 Battery pack" on page 60 of the above link.
3. Remove the backup battery. (For how to remove the backup battery, see "1140 Backup battery" on page 82 and page 65 of the above link).
3a. You must remove the keyboard and battery pack to access backup battery.
3b. Remove 4 screws with keyboard icon to remove keyboard.
3c. Gently push the keyboard forward.
3d. Then lift up the keyboard slightly.
3e. Detach the keyboard connector.
3f. Remove keyboard.
3g. Disconnect the backup battery.
4. Turn on the computer and wait until the POST ends.
After the POST ends, the password prompt should not appear. The POP has been removed.
5. Reinstall the backup battery and the battery pack and the keyboard.
