22 hp Briggs Intek will not run at full speed without choke on

Ran good until it ran out of gas. Filled it up with gas and now it seems to be running too lean. It runs better with half choke on. I noticed that my fuel filter seems to be almost empty now. I'm getting fuel to the pump, thru the pump and to the carb. I tried pulling off the fuel line and blowing back into the tank until it bubbles still no better. How do you adjust the carb on this engine? I can't find any adjustment screws except the idle adust.

I fixed my problem. I took the carb apart and cleaned it.I didn't see any trash, but when I put it back together it ran perfect. Why does this motor not have anyway to adjust the carb like on most Briggs?

I cleaned the carb and it works perfect now. This sure was a lot of work for just running out of gas.

Lawnmower has been in storage for 6 months. Has new good gas, and gas is flowing to carb. However, engine will not start without priming carb with gas, then runs until primed gas is exhausted. ...

this is from a post i just did for anothe engine but i think it applies to you also.

get a product called START. this stuff is amazing it has solved all my engine problems including a couple like yours. any wal mart should have it. add to your gas and the longer it runs the better it runs. i am telling you it is worth the 6 bucks. i had a 4wheeler that never ran right, always had to half choke it. even though i cleaned the carb twice. added this stuff and by the time that tank was gone it was running like new. if that doesnt take care of your problem then it needs to go to the shop Now your situation i know is dirt or varnish in the carb i have had this problem also. and start worked for me on that also. mix it in the gas and keep it running even if you have to keep priming it

I have a Briggs and STatton 24 OHV intek motor on a craftsman lawn tractor. I got it on sale and when I got home it ran rough. The fuel line had collapsed or was plugged with some white powder. I took off...

It sounds like the fuel mixture is running very Lean..There are usually two adjusting screw screws on the carburettor that control the mixture. A Larger one is for the Main Jet and a smaller one for the Idle Jet. There is also an adjusting screw on the throttle butterfly to control the idle speed.
To adjust setup, start with at least a half tank of fuel, and have engine at operating tempurature (That is warm but not overly Hot). As a starting point, loosen (anticlockwise) Main Jet screw about half a turn, to richen mixture,so that engine will run without choke. Run engine at full speed and adjust main jet for highest smooth speed without engine missing due to mixture being too lean or rich.
Allow engine to idle and the adjust Idle Jet Screw for smoothest idle. Idle Speed screw may have to be adjusted if idle speed is too high/low.
Sequence above may have to be repeated to get best running. If engine hesitates sometime when sudden load is applied but then picks up, try adjusting Main Jet by 1/8 to 1/4 turn richer until it handles the load without faltering.

21hp intek v-twin runs only with choke on full

You are not getting enough fuel.... by choking it you are enriching the mixture with less air , more fuel. Some where in the fuel system or carbureator something is still plugged.Or the mixture screw is too far in.

Need carburetor adjustment

I had a similar problem with my 23 hp briggs. While cleaning the carb I found that the great gas we get today had eaten the seal around one of the jets in the throttle body causing it to fall out. Replaced the jet and now runs like a champ. Hope this helps.
