Battery went flat twice while out fishing,was advised readouts showed everything ok,advised could be computor problem, advied to fit another battery,tried again however after tarvelling few hundred mets motor stopped,will turnover wont start,advised could be ecu problem,any ideas trying to avoid paying for another computor

Disconnect the shift cable and see if the problem is with the shift box or the lower unit. If the lower, remove the bottom plug and look for water or metal where there should be clean oil.
If the shift box, take to the marina- they were a bear. Even just for cables.
I will try to help. As you describe the problem I wonder if the starter gear is not cut deep enough to give clearance on the flywheel or the end bushing is too short. A short bushing would allow the gear to travel too far on the starter shaft and smack the flywheel.
Also the flywheel position would change if your particular motor has thrust washers on the crankshaft.
You may not know if anyone milled the starter case or motor. Maybe if you ground off the tip of the bolts it would help.
Check the voltage on the pink wire on the starter selonoid. Should have at least 10 volts while cranking, if voltage drops below 10V change the batteries, I had the same problem.
