Play Recordable CDs Containing MP3/WMA Audio Files
To play recordable CDs containing MP3 and/or WMA audio files:

Press the eject button on the Xbox 360 console (or select Open Tray from any area of the Xbox Dashboard) to open the disc tray.

Place a data CD-R or CD-RW containing MP3 and/or WMA media on the disc tray with the label facing up (to the right if the console is vertical).

Press the eject button (or select Close Tray from any area of the Xbox Dashboard) to close the disc tray.
Go to the Media area of the Xbox Dashboard. Select Music, Current Disc.
To play all tracks on the CD, select either Play All or Add to Current Playlist.

If you have an existing playlist open, Add to Current Playlist will append all tracks on your current CD to that playlist. Selecting Play All will clear a current playlist and create a new one consisting of all the files on the current CD. (Be sure to save your playlist, if desired, prior to selecting the Play All option.) Files are added to a playlist in alphabetical order by file name. Playlists start again from the beginning once the final track has played.

How do i put songs on my xbox

Follow these steps :
1.
Burn CDs. The easiest way to put music on your Xbox 360 is to rip CDs from your own collection. Simply insert your favorite CD in you Xbox 360 and then pull up the secondary menu with the Xbox logo button. Then select "Rip CD" from the menu to transfer the tracks from the CD to your Xbox hard drive.
2.
Sync your computer with your Xbox 360. If you have Windows XP Media Edition or Windows Vista (any edition) and a wireless connection your computer will be able to detect your Xbox 360 and can share media with it. Simply find the "Windows Media Extension" tool on your PC and follow the prompts to stream video to your Xbox 360.

I want to setup my xbox to store music it is an xbox 360 elite

You can store all your music on a USB stick drive and plug that into a usb port. You can stream Music from your computer over your network to the 360.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/howto/mp11/xbox360towmp11xp_stepbystep.aspx

you can also burn it onto CDs then rip them on the xbox 360.
http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26395382

unfortunately due to stupid DRM (digital rights management) you can't drag and drop music onto the 360 hard drive.

How can I retrieve my music from the xbox digitally?

you have two options,

you can softmod your xbox so that you can connect to it via another computer over a network and copy the files.

here is a tutorial:

http://glitchamanjaro.com/public_html/forums/archive/index.php?t-3643.html

or you can physically open up the xbox, take out the harddrive, and put it in another computer as a secondary harddrive and attempt to read the data.

The xbox currently does not support any type of music transfer capabilities other than playing and ripping cds
. the only way to get your music to your pc is to do one of these work arounds, sorry

X box 360 wont rip all songs from music cd.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/howto/mp11/xbox360towmp11xp_stepbystep.aspx

you can always try streaming the music from your pc to the xbox, look on the link above for more info

I think the problem you are having may be protected content,
songs that have embedded content protection may not transfer to the Xbox 360.

Sorry I cannot be of anymore assistance
