Boot problem with IBM xseries 206 - SCSI Drive and SATA drive

I have a server with windows 2k server installed in a HDD SCSI, but When a SATA drive is attached for data storage purpose, the system not initialize, because the system recognize the SATA drive like a boot disk.
Changing the boot order in the BIOS don't works.

    what did you attach the SATA drive to?I can think of only 2 possibilities; (1) USBor (2) adding a SATA controller to the server. - and if so, what device shows up in the bios after you hook up the SATA? a "hack" workaround would be to use an external sata device and mount it after booting windows. __________________I found something similar maybe 12-14 years ago, when I had a SCSI Homemachine, and if I put in an IDE drive it insisted on booting to THAT,and I never solved that. __________Just thought of a "real hack" - and that would be to see if you canfind some kind of multi-boot loader (or install a small linux with one)on the SATA drive, from which you can CHOOSE to boot the SCSI disk.

Not a solution: just a follow up. Did you work this out, as I have the same problem now. For others info: the xseries 206, has 2 sata connections which can be configured as a sata raid. It also has 3 hot pluggable scsi slots. When the sata drives are not connected it boots off the scsi to win server. As soon as the satas are plug in ( 1 or 2, raid or not) it wants to boot off the sata drive. Any help would be great.

expand the "Hard Drive" option under the Boot Sequence.
Then you should be able to move the USB drive up above as primary hard drive, which then allowes to boot from the USB flash drive.

I think first u disconnect ur all HDD to server. then u enable ur booting HDD or operating HDD...and setup again....

Another way: If u have original windows ..u can use windows recovery disk ...then recover ur missing file(kernel).

strange. with 4gb of ram, it should be fast. try to install better version of windows like win 7. it could help you. just don't install vwindows vista cause is slow as hell. let me know if it worked

How to repair server 2003 in IBM 226 server
first you need to prepare the scsi drives ie host raid adapter scsi drivers are server raid cotroller 6 scsi drivers by using the serevr raid support cd dikettitools proper os drivers to floppy and boot with widows cd at the time starting boot press f6 to specify the scsi drivers then all scsi hdd will detect for installatio.

It is not detecting the HDD because the windows install does not have the necessary drivers. On the windwos install you must press F6 or F2 I don't remember which one but it prompts you for them to load external drivers fro SCSI or other type of drives, you must download the right drivers for the type of HDD the server has probably fromt eh IBM support website, put them in a floppy and load them from the floppy into the windows install so it recognizes the drives..

You mention on boot that the server shows a logical drive of 158GB, which obviously means the server is detecting the drives ok.

Quite often Windows doesn't have the correct drivers to support systems using RAID controllers such as IBM ServerRaid, so this is probably why the setup CD states "No HDD detected, press F3 to reboot". When the Windows Setup CD Boots, it should at some point (on the blue screen) at the bottom of the screen state something like "Press F6 to load additional drivers". If you can get the correct drivers from IBM website, and load them by pressing F6, Windows should be able to see the drives ok. Hopefully it will then be able to successfully repair the error.

While running the windows 2003 setup (winnt.exe), it will ask for SASI driver, you have to add the scsi driver... then windows 2003 os will detect the HDD.. then it will install..

Install windows xp on a IBM xseries 200 8479 computer
You have to download the scsi driver from the ibm site. You'll need a floppy and floppy drive. When you boot with your xp cd to setup press F6 to install driver.
