I do not have a printer toolbox or a features tab referred to on other internet help pages.

Hi gman2001, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
try going to start menu and try searching in top right hand side of screen the search term hp
to see if printer toolbox comes up as a search result. If it does right click on it and click on pin it to taskbar.

None of the menus and Properties screens that I have show a “Tools” option. That’s what I’m desperately seeking. Perhaps some additional software or driver files from HP are required to provide this functionality, but checking ink sure seems like a fundamental capability that should always be available. I’m a 30-year IT guy so I tried everything in my kit bag to find the solution before coming to you folks. No luck with any of that stuff but I swore that I saw ink status for this printer sometime in my past but it may have been a couple of OS installations and drivers ago. I noticed that Win7 was cited as not having a robust driver, or maybe no driver at all, which could nullify the availability of a toolbox and be the ultimate answer to my inquiry - "out of luck".

Do you have the alternate software installed so you can use this on windows 7? I assume you do. If that is the case go to installed devices, i.e. printers and right click the printer icon, see if the ink level shows up in the tools menu..

How do i check the ink level on my 6940 inkjet printer ?

  1. Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
    • Open HP Solution Center , select Settings , and then Printer Toolbox .
    • If the HP Solution Center method does not work, open Printers and Faxes in the Windows Control Panel, then right-click the printer icon and choose Printing Preferences . Click the Features tab, and then click the Printer Services button.
  2. The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge may be running out of ink even if the graphic shows otherwise. (see the note at the start of this section). Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink.

I cannot check the level of ink in my hp 5610 model printer

You need the HP Toolbox software: Follow these steps to check the ink levels in the Toolbox . The Toolbox is part of the standard printer software. Depending on the version of Toolbox on your computer, the appearance of the Toolbox features might vary. NOTE: Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When an indicator shows low ink levels, consider having a replacement cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. Print quality deteriorates as cartridges run out of ink.
  1. Click Start .
  2. Click Printers and Faxes .
  3. Right-click the icon for your printer and then click Printing Preferences .
  4. Click the Features tab.
  5. Click the Printer Services button. The Toolbox window opens.
  6. Click the Estimated Ink Levels tab. A window opens that indicates the estimated ink level of each cartridge.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

Print a self-test report

2. Press and hold the Cancel button and then press the Start Copy Color button.
The product prints a self-test report, which might indicate the source of the printing problem.

How do check ink level on HP 7450 printer?

You should have an HP Toolbox icon (Windows) on your desktop or in your Programs list. Open this and find the tab that says: Estimated Ink Level. Your printer has to be connected to your computer for this to work. Be aware these are estimates only. It's always good to have a spare cartridge or two on hand, especially if you do a lot of photo printing.
