Hi. I have an older 1960's horse tiller. I need gear oil for the transmission. All I can find is Traveller multi purpose gear oil, API service, GL-5. Is this okay to use? Thanks, Bill

OReily Auto parts stores carry GL-4 straight 140W gear oil that will work for the old Troy Bilt tillers. Its around $12.00 a gallon.

What oil used in transmission

Troy-Bilt says that if adding a few ounces only, use GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil. If refilling an empty transmission, use GL-4, with a viscosity of SAE 85W-140 or SAE 140.

Manual Transmission fluid for Ford Escort ZX2

I know this sounds crazy according to Ford:

You can use-
Motorcraft MERCON Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX MERCON® Alternative Transaxle Fluid - SAE 75W90 Gear Oil F32Z-19C547-MA API GL-4
You are seeing that right, one instance they call for 75W90 and the other it is ATF. It is ok to run either, 75W90 will give you smoother shifts and less noise.

This transmission is filled through the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) hole.
