Items on top shelf are normally cool but this morning they are not. Bottom of compartment 4c and top around 10c. Can hear motor running and droplets of water freeze on back wall all way to underside of top shelf. Any ideas on what is wrong. thanks.
Sounds like an air-flow problem, are the fans running? Damper door open? Model #?
Testimonial: "I can't see a fan on the inside and there are no apertures where one would be either. I also cannot hear a fan running. The model is Hotpoint RLFM171."

the fan would be in the freezer and blow the cold air into the fridge section, there is a door the air needs to blow through, and a hole at the bottom of the fridge to let the air circulate in a clock-wise direction from fridge to freezer and back again...
It is an upright fridge only and there is nowhere for any air to blow in from. The walls of the inside of the fridge are solid with no holes apart from a drain hole.
Then the fan should be behind the evaporator cover on the back wall inside the unit, if there is no fan noise, look behind the cover to see if it is not spinning, or if there is an obstruction.
This is some weird European model, eh?
There are no covers to remove anywhere inside and nothing on sides or back.
Then it may be "thermoelectric." If the thermoelectric cooling unit is out, and there is no way to access it, then you are buying a new fridge. Get a normal compressor style unit this time, it will be fix-able.
It has a black compressor at the bottom at the back which does run and trips out when it has cooled the fridge
Then it has to have a way to circulate the cool air through the evaporator coil - a fan.
There are some models that use gravity to cool, but if this isn't making enough cold air to gravity cool, then it is a sealed system issue = new fridge as well
OK, Thankyou for your help. I will see how it goes over next week and take it from there.

SOURCE: not cooling right
misty, if you put in a new fan motor you should have been able to see if the evaporator is frosted up. If it's one big chunk of ice, you have a defrost problem. Usually the heaters are the culprit. You can check it at the main board in back by using on jumper wire on the blue harness. Jump line to defr. This will send 120V directly to the heater. If the heater comes on, you have a board problem. Im assuming that the new fan you put in is working. If they don't come on, the heaters are probably the culprit. part number for the board is wr55x10174. If it's the heaters, part number wr51x10055. Catriver

maybe you fridge is tilting to far forward some times a fridge needs to lean back slightly only by 5 degs so adjust the foot t the front. this will mke the water flow towards the back and also help keep the doors sealed better

does this fridge have a gulley at the back with a drain hole in the middle? if so, the drain is blocked, push something flexible down the drain till water flows away freely

Hi!!!Your drain line is frozen and plugged.Try to remove the cover of the evaporator and you should see a small hole on the base of the evaporator thats yout drain line hole. Blow it away and your problem is gone..Good luckk..Plugged drain line..
SOURCE: fridge of my Hotpoint FFA90 fridge-freezer freezes
The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.
Testimonial: "Thanks, I have checked that, but the vent at the bottom of the fridge section is a rigid plastic grill, which doesn't, nor looks like it should move. "
