In the under-hood fuse block, there is a START 1 relay that provides power to the solenoid. There is a START circuit breaker (30A) that goes thru the closed contacts of that relay to activate the solenoid. The relay coil is powered from the PCM IGN Fuse (10A). All are located in the under-hood fuse box. See attached circuit diagram for assistance.
The spot depends on the vehicle. It is usually on fender near battery, or most common - right on the starter. Just follow the thick red power wire from battery. If it goes to starter directly, then switch on starter. If it goes to unit bolted under hood then that is relay. There is usually a second wire that goes to the power distribution box (under hood fuses) but that is not the correct wire. It will be the other big wire from battery positive terminal.
At the starter relay, you have two red or purple wires, one goes to the starter and the other comes from a 30amp fuseable link. Is that fuseable link circuit hot ?
From the key switch, power goes thru the alarm relay, then the clutch safety switch or automatic selector switch, then to the starter relay. The fourth wire on the starter relay is a ground.
You should be able to put power to the starter relay on the white or yellow wire coming from the safety switch to make the relay engage.
My guess is something wrong with the alarm system.
Starter motor relay , transmission range switch , wiring ! Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? How to read one ? How to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit
do you know what a relay is ? how to test one . VEHICLE RELAYS Operation Diagnosis
You can view free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html enter the vehicle info. year , make , model , engine size . Under system click on engine , then under sub system click on charging system . click search button ,one link will pop up , click on it . First diagram is starter circuir . If starts jumping at the starter the problem is on the control side . trans range switch , starter relay ,blown # 6 40 amp fuse in the under hood fuse / relay center .
3 Wire protectorelay
Black - Power in; White - all neutrals; Orange - Motor and igniter.
4 Wire - Igniter goes to Blue, all else the same
5 or more - Same as 4 wire and
Red - Always "hot"
Violet - Oil delay valve

Hope this helps

check under the hood and find the battery and follow the red (+) wires thru the relay to the bottom of the motor, usually gonna be visible from the top. but make sure you jack up the vehicle and check underside but the starter would usually be on the underside at the rear toward the firewall under the motor
