SOURCE: Maytag washer won't spin out

Before you try to take the panel apart to remove the timer you need to check that the electrical connections to the pump are o.k. and whether the pump is getting power when it's time to drain. If you have to replace the timer you need to take the back panel off first.

SOURCE: I have a maytag top

based on your description..the motor for the timer sounds like it is bad or one of the wires powering it came free of the motor terminal.. Does the dial spin after you start any wash setting? If not then I'd say your timer needs replacing.. Hope that helps

How to receive the best washing machine repair help on FixYa

There are a couple of things that you should include in your washer repair question so you receive the quickest and most accurate answers.

1. Model Number

The model number can be located on the model/serial number tag that is located on the washer.

Make sure you get the full model number from this tag and not the model number from the owners manual.

The model number from the owners manual only includes the first few digits of the full model number because they include that owners manual with many similar models of washers.

With the full model number I'm able to look up factory service manuals, tech sheets, wiring diagrams, factory service pointers and so much more.

2. Detailed description of the problem

At the very least give a brief description of the problem you are having with your washer.

Descriptions like 'My washer don't work' is not very helpful.

Describe what is not working. For example is the washer not filling with water? Maybe the washer is full of water but it will not pump the water out?

The more details you can give the better. Instead of saying 'The washer will not pump the water out' you could go into more detail and say something like...

"My washer filled up with water and started agitating. When I went to take the laundry out of the washer the timer had advance to the end of the cycle, but the washer was still full of water. I advance the timer around to the drain cycle again to try and drain the water out of the washer, but all the washer does is make a humming sound."

Following these couple tips can help you get a faster and more accurate reply to your washer repair question.

Washer stuck in drain and spin mode

Hello. I need the model number to help you accurately. When the unit drains, can you verify water *is* actually being pumped out? This is important because no washer will spin if it can't pump all the water out--modern electronic washers have to balance the load and water is an unknown, shifting quantity. I need the model number to assist you in initiating the diagnostic mode and explaining the possible error code(s) you might be getting. I hope I helped you!

Hotpoint aquarius 100 wm62

tha model number doesn't come up,you need to send the full number off of the washer, open the door and lok around the opening where you put the clothes in,you should see a tag with the model number on it,if the pump doesn't drain out the water then it can't spin until the water is drained,if it's a front load washer check the pump to see if something is in the pump stopping the impellar from spinning to drain out the water or you could have a bad pump, put the washer or drain and spin and see if it will drain.

Error code nD, won't go into spin cycle

Is the Machine a FAV6800A or a FAV9800A?

Do you want to DIY the fix?

The nd error code = No Drain error code.

You could have drain line clog, an issue with the drain pump or a stuck pressure switch. Do you hear the machines drain pump turn on and pump out water before entering lnto the spin cycle? Is there water left in the tub with the nd error code? If you can provide feedback on the questions above I will help guide through the troubleshooting steps.

You will need the Service Manual to troubleshoot.

The FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

Whirlpool duet ht, motor running but nothing happening, says 48 mins to go, cancel does not work. Have unplugged but will not reset. Left over night unplugged, stiil not reset. Cannot open door to even get...

Our Duet washer (5 years old) would not pump the water out, and would not spin. It displayed no error codes. Tried reset, would cancel but still not work. I started disassembly (found the Whirlpool maintenance/ repair manual on line to refer to); everything seemed to check OK. Cleaned filter, fortunately the washer sits on a pedestal drawer as the washer had at least 3 gallons of water in it I had to drain into a bucket. As I went through the diagnostic test sequence found in the repair manual it was apparent that although the pump had power and made noise, no water pumped out. I removed the pump assembly and found the remains of a small plastic baggy fouling the pump impeller. It was left in a clothes pocket and run through the washer. No idea why the filter basket didn't stop it. Pulled baggy out with needle-nosed pliers and presented it to my wife (her baggy). Reassembled and all works great. No cost, actually made 1 cent on the penny found in the filter basket. You need a Torx screwdriver to access most of the panels. Reason for not spinning was the massive weight of wet towels and water sitting in basket.

Full of water, won't drain past the agitation stage, just goes dead

It won't drain If your washer won't drain, check these:

It spins, but doesn't pump
It doesn't spin or pump
It pumps, but the water returns
It spins, but doesn't pump If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out.

To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port.

Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job.

If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.

It doesn't spin or pump If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it.

It pumps, but the water returns If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck in the drain?) Also, check for these problems:

  • If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess.

  • If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly.

Repairing the Water Pump

The error code occurs if the pump does not drain within (I believe) 8 minutes. With the tub empty, you have no resistance from anything to obstruct the flow of water. With the tub full, its going to put a bit more strain on the pump to extract water. If the pump motor or impeller are damaged, it may be just enough to cause the pump to run slow enough while the tub is full and cause the error code. If you have already verified all the drain lines to be clear, and have no drainage issues with your household plumbing, the manufacturer recommends you replace the drain pump.

Go to searspartsdirect.com and type in the model number you provided. The pump will be located under the "Pump and Motor" heading as item number 10 (part #280187). It is only sold as a complete unit.

If you need instructions on how to replace the pump, please read this link:

I hope this helps answer some of your questions/concerns. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Washer fills/agitates and stops prior to draining

If pump works fine or still pumps out water, then it is a timer malfunction. Replace the timer and you should be fine. To locate a part number for your timer, refer to www3.sears.com with the model number off your washer.
