Klh powered subwoofer model ASW10-120B... when you plug in to power... it makes a loud buzzing/humming noise

I would check the caps on the power supply. They are rather large electrolytic capacitors that will look like they burst and/or leaking. When these die, the caps ground and the sub will make a loud buzzing sound. If you are handy with a soldering iron you can replace them yourself. Replace them with the same voltage or a little bigger and same with the size.

If the cap. says 16v 4700pF on it, for example, a 20v 5300pF or a 16v 6200mF cap. will work for this application.

My sound doesn't work with the DVD fuction. It works on the Tuner, the VHS1 but not DVD. Do I need to connect the S-Video cable or what else should I try?

S-video would be a better choice than (yellow) composite video but it won't help the sound.

Not knowing anything about the DVD player and how you have it wired we can only guess what is wrong with IT or the connection to the KLH.

Have you looked at the manuals for the DVD and the KLH? You don't just hook it up and run with it. Digital Audio must be assigned, for example, and other stuff.

I have the KLH Digital Model KF3228, no sound, plus no remote. Can I use a universal remote, also no axcess panel.

I have a universal remote that offers codes for KLH televisions. So, the odds are very good that you can use a universal remote that will operate it. Good luck!

No sound and smells like burning

There are a lot of folks who've had power supply issues with this sub. Typically, the large resistors fail, which takes out the capacitors.

If you know how to read schematics and replace parts, then these might be helpful to you:

Here are the two pages of schematics from KLH. I wrote to their techdepartment and explicitly asked for permission to share them here.

Here's the lower board, which has the power supply:

Here's the upper board:

Klh r7000 no sound

Like I wrote, I had a similar problem with popping and then no audio for an extended period of time. I found the solution on another site, http://dexsoft.com/blog/?p=15

Apparently the solder joints are weak, and just as the blog described when I opened up the receiver I saw the same scorch marks from overheating. Just as the blog described, I added solder to each of the joints in the photo and have had no problem ever since.

I am no solder expert, this is my 2nd time, but all I did is build up each of the joints and I have been listening to music, playing movies in surround sound with no problems, no popping for the last 2 weeks.

Connect R5100 to DVR/Monitor

use component audio to the HDTV and optical audio to your KLH reciever. The component and optical are always active at the same time. I work for TWC if you have more questions.
