Hi Jodie Taylor,

The first thing that pops into my mind is a sock (or some such) living in your water pump... (or a bad bearing... broken pulley
(let your imagination be your guide)).

If I knew your make & model... I'd be awesomely more CONFIDENT in telling you how to check (but nary a clue came through with your question).

It all boils down to DIY (do it yourself) or calling for service.

If you THINK you don't mind EXPERIMENTING with DIY...

search the web for your make+model+trouble (smell)...

An amazing number of people share their experiences for the (kind) EDIFICATION of others...

Much the same as the legion of volunteers here... sharing our experience.

Hope this helps (or at least comforts).

Parts... same story (make & model required).

Will not spin and has a burning rubber smell

sounds like a loose belt, or worse, a stuck pulley..

tip the unit back about 30 degrees, with power off, and unplugged, and inspect the belt..I suggest something solid to hold it up(not your hand or someone elses)...and see if you have free play there, or it's frozen

My LG wm2050cw front load washing machine had a burn smell in the drum, first time I ever noticed it. Any help with diagnosing much appreciated!

As a good guess, I would say it is your bearing seal. That's about the only thing that would give a burning rubber type smell in the drum/tub. Try moving the tub forward and backward and see if it moves. It should not. If it does that's a sure sign of bearing problems. Hopefully it is something else. Bearings are a difficult fix.

Hello all, there is something wrong with my washing machine. During a wash i started to smell something like burned tire so i stoped it. Now everytime i try to start a new wash it looks like it starts but...

check the belt inside of the machine that's a problem so it seem like it is loosing because of expanding so replace it with a little lower size or adjust it by loosing the motor and push it to side.and makesure not tighten toomuch because you may demage the motor and don't loose it toomuch.

Burning smell

There's a number of reasons to smell burning after a washing machine cycle. It's a 220V appliance, so if it short's out it will cause problems. It's more likely the motor being overloaded making it hot and causing the electrical burning smell, or a short that's overheating something electrical. Check to see if the belt that spins the whole barrel is melted or worn anywhere. Inspect the wiring that's attached to the system that engages spin, which is different from agitation by the big tower.
If these both check out, an trip to the Maytag Man might have to fix overloading motors or relays, or switches, if anything turns up in your search for the source of the electrical smoke. Ozone is what you are smelling, FYI.

Burn fuses

Something inside is short-circuited. All components look fine thans to burned fuse. Don't try it anymore with new fuses. You need to get a repairman to check it out.
